Real Talk: Do you get burnt out and only generate for the streak?

The title says it all, there are days when I just find an idea that I already have and click create story. Right now with this latest issue that happened last night to my chapter, I just don’t care. What about you?

Difference between Ink and Ember?

I've been using both for weeks now and frankly, I'm still a bit confused as to what's the exact difference between them. Maybe it's because my prompts are pretty long and detailed, with a lot of ready-to-go dialogue, and I do give intsturctions to leave my exact wording here and there, but still, curious if maybe there's something I'm missing. Do you guys see much difference? Maybe tried to write the same promp with both and have comparison?

Dude, the weird generation??

Dude, the generation of the stories last night , and this morning has been.. weird. They don't make sense, the generation has been weird over the last few hours. It'll be like,

Griffin's throat was so dry.

Nate bumped his shoulder.

"Please say something stupid like not strong," Nate whispered. "You're pistol, you know. If you're not walking, you have feelings."

"I don't have—" he stopped.

But then the voice was already floating across the hard-packed snow: cold, warm, with a drawled quiet: "Well. Grif the Hawk. Mr. Way of the Warm Hand."

...now tell me, does that make sense to you? ... :|

Megathread: Weird or garbled story generations

We've seen the posts about story generations reading strangely over the last day, and we're collecting details in one place so nothing gets lost across separate threads. If this happened to you, please reply here.

The most useful thing you can include is your story code. That lets us look at the exact generation instead of guessing.

Please answer whatever you can:

  1. Story code for the chapter that came out wrong
  2. Story code for a chapter from before this started that read normally, if you have one
  3. Date and rough time it was generated, and your timezone
  4. Which writer you had selected: Auto, Standard, Ember, or Ink
  5. Whether switching to a different writer made any difference
  6. Was every chapter affected, or only some of them
  7. One story or multiple stories
  8. Roughly how long the story is, and whether it uses a lorebook or components
  9. Device and browser, and whether you were on the app or the website
  10. When you first noticed it, and whether it's still happening now

Two things we've seen described that may be separate, so please say which one matches you:

A. The writing is grammatically fine but the words don't add up. Wrong words, sentences that contradict themselves, names appearing that aren't in your story.

B. The writing reads normally but ignores things you'd established. Wrong weather, wrong location, details from your components or lorebook not showing up.

If both, say both.

Thanks for the reports and the story codes already posted. Keep them coming in this thread.

Did The AI Have A Stroke Last Night

Last night I was having a hard time sleeping so I decided to generate a chapter, oh boy I wish I hadn’t.

u/Quirky_Advantage_470 — 22 hours ago

Did the AI take a handful of "candy" today and go crazy?

This chapter is the worst by far, but I've been having issues all morning (usually with Standard) and I've had to use quills to rewrite since half the time I'm not even sure what the AI is trying to say. Pure gibberish, sentences not making sense, random names inserted - this story has alien characters/names and all of a sudden I had Cora and Charlie inserted in the middle of a sentence - etc

Guess I'll try again tonight...

Is everything okay?

There was no zero sex scene in my story! ZERO! !! . I didn't put anything out of nothing and this one comes out of nothing! And as if that weren't enough, I have thick pens that are unnecessarily 100 pens gone!

Tips to stop characters repeating each other, and listing things all the time?

I don’t know what prompt to add to deviate from this kind of dialogue. I’m almost exclusively using ember.

For example:

Character 1: “You made pasta?”

Character 2: “I made pasta.”

Character 1: “And you cleaned the house?”

Character 2: “And I cleaned the house.”

Additionally, any tips to stop the characters rambling before they’re interrupted by the other character kissing them or something?

E.g. “I’ve wanted this since I first saw you at the bookstore. Since you first quoted Walt Whitman to me wearing that cream sweater that falls off one shoulder. Since you came home with the groceries. Since you-“ OTHER CHARACTER KISSES HIM TO SHUT HIM UP.

I wouldn’t say this was a bug or anything, just a writing style I’m sick off so any tips to get the AI to avoid it, I’m all ears.

I don't mean to pile on, I've seen at least one complaint of how the AI is performing. I thought "no way", then I generated this. Above is the code for a story I generated.

Please devs, tell me that you can use this info to improve the AI.

back! but um im alittle upset lol

Why cant you all just merge ember and ink together to make a better writer. I dont understand from a money point people would pay for it , i should know I pay for my account lol, 😅 also why oh why were our stories AMAZING in the writing typer length and prose then after all the bugs and such (AKA: FERAL LITTLE GREMLIN) did they writing quality go waaaaaaaaay down.

I was looking at one of my original stories and then one of my recent stories and just like wow the difference is big.......so any one else having this issue. Because lets be honest I have written multiple stories and a LOT of them share the same prose like the live wire fiasco not to mention the smell of ozone 🤣 like WHAT 😀

Your thoughts fellow quillers...........drop a comment love to hear it

Reading Circle

So I wanted to suggest opening a mega thread where we comment on other user's story. Like a book club. The aim would be to support each other and maybe put a spotlight on other people's stories. And also giving earnest feedback by writing reviews. I also started to use the bookmark function so I won't lose track of interesting stories as well as following author's to strengthen community and having an easier time finding their stories.

I try to be encouraging, as feedback should be honest, but also keep the writer's engaged and not scaring them to never publish anything anymore.

Most of what I read is from the featured author's program, but I try to read stuff from non featured author's as well. I try to at least read one story from somebody else per week, as more isn't possible with my schedule.

A nice quick read about a woman getting fucked by a troll. The twist is predictable, but them coming out as a couple was a little heartwarming. As always by captainstinky he is really good at maintaining the illusion of not having used AI.

If you are into furry and resepctful consent that story might be for you. It is more about the club and the MC's self discovery. The smut is a short and honestly not that titilating scene. But this story is more about feelings anyway.

I really liked that story. It is an extremely slow burn, atmospheric piece about characters slowly getting corrupted by an lovecraftian entity. It's really close to the human character's their feelings and thoughts. It is rather ambitious with it's multiple points of view, but succeeds in giving each one a distinctive voice. Sadl it's only the first part of a three part story, so the end for Hrafnheim is more like a set-up than a true resolution.

This one feels a little rough, as it was the authors first story. However the transformation in body, but especially in mind of the MC is really well made. And unlike the other entries above this story has a very high sex ratio.

This one-shot feels like a condensced version of The Anatomy of Hunger. The improvement in storytelling is there, as well as a way clearer vision where the transformation should lead to.

Just a set-up and introduction to the story. As always the polish is second to none. If it ever get's continued, the already strong start and long wait will be well worth it.

A short and sweet story about a travel having sex with a giant tiger furry. The most interesting thing is the arabian nights setting as well as the tigress interspersing her vocabulary with arabic. A quick, high smut read.

A fanfiction about the Disney franchise. It is a wife stealing story and the sex scenes are between a furry fox and a human woman. What makes it a good read however are the antagonists, which are a furry, racist hate group. It really shows how racist can rile up a political movement. Part of a larger story, so it finishes without a resolution.

Seemingly part of a greater story, this seems more like a vertical slice demo with smut than the real story. hawk has the best prose on RedQuill bar none I have read, as long as it isn't about the sex itself. This part is clearly parcelled of to the AI. Still would read more of it, as this reads good and not just like windowdressed AI.

I checked out the author's profile to find the story again. This one seems like a proof of concept set up, especially since it is only a one-shot and there is another story with the same name and 22 chapters. The first few paragraphs even set up the same scene. Still, the one-shot has really good introperspection and shows the fine line the MC is walking between desire and the fear of acting upon it.

This story is a pay-off for the author's long time readers. No smut, but wedding planing with a gazillion characters introduced in other works. It really shows the struggle of the two MCs about their wedding planning, but without context it loses almost all it's impact. Otherwise this would be a culmination of all that has happened in the author's world.

One of my favourite stories on RedQuill. The first three chapters could be a legitimate historic novel with a little smut. Alone the arrival scene in Constantinople is great. I really like the sensual tone. The characters are a little too predictable, but it is otherwise a really nice story. Also has a sex scene in almost any chapter.

The premisse is weird, but the smut is strong in this one. A really cool twist on a succubus feeding on the frat party premisse. Especially the power bottom dynamic is shown well.

I really dig the consensual vibe in this story. It is otherwise a medical procedure with a cybernetic limb. But the way it is written I would have also gladly read a non-sexual story about activating the MCs hand.

This is actually just an epilogue of a far longer story. Despite that it's easy to understand. There are actually two layers. One of a couple erotic roleplaying and than one of the story they play out. The intercut between these two layers is great.

A love story in a confined space. With attention to detail about body language and feelings. And sex from the beginning to the end.

A incest story. What I like is that despite incest being normal in the setting the characters aren'T gung-ho about it. Dealing more with their hangups. The setting of having sex in a lake under the moonlight is very romantic.

A second story about a couple with a bubbly or pushing female lead. Spicy and energetic, it's really good about the contrast between the male and female lead. And I like how the male lead learns how to become more assertive. Bonus points for them establishing the groundwork for a believable BDSM relationship.

I include this because aerojay72 put more work into it than me. They made the outline and had the base idea and I basically reacted to their plan. aerojay72's part have a really good grounding in Norse mythology, while my chapters are my usual brand of perversion, done to the girlcock. It was fun working together with them.

I kept it short, but can also write longer reviews. I also started to read more stories, but only want to give a review about finished ones I read every chapter. Stepmonster: A 2006 Afternoon and Safe Harbor by huginn for example got more chapters after I read them. So I didn't include a review for them.

Have any of you read other user's story and want to give feedback?

AW Purchase

Is there a plan of adding purchase for aw's? I know I can get them with the quills pack but it would be nice if we could buy just aw in the future (since you kinda need them as long as standard is acting how it is).

Components question

Hi hi. So, we are about to jump to part two of our story based on our real lives as a swinging/hotwife couple as the AI is doing the breaking down and hallucination thing (referencing an event that never happened? check. 'she looked at herself in the mirror they didnt have'? check. 'she pulled her top out of somewhere because she wasn't wearing one' check) and had a thought about components for part two.

Mostly, we've just grabbed components from random lists that seemed like we might like the story to touch on them or whatever, but have never created our own. Given that our story is based on actual events, consistency of locations matter to us a lot. Is it possible to use components that are like layouts of buildings or spaces or whatever? Just would help in having to correct the AI when it goes off the rails and moves things around in places we weren't in for many chapters but do come back to. If anyone has done that, we would love to hear how that component was structured and how well it worked for you.

Thanks!

I did it for you, r/redquill. I did it all for you!

The yellow was generated by the AI. The blue I added afterward.

Collection page disappeared from My Library.

I was just there, but now the button is gone, and I can't see to find a way to the collections again. Help me, Obi-wan!

EDIT: Thanks to u/LAPhoenixRising I was able to find it--where it says "Created", click the down arrow and select "Saved". Then it will show.
