Joining the Lyric Bandwagon

Joining the Lyric Bandwagon

I've seen a bunch of stories come through based on song lyrics and I figured I'd jump in with a one shot based on a song I've enjoyed for quite some time. The song is "There's no I in Threesome" by Interpol off of their album "Our Love to Admire", so naturally it lends to what RQ does so well. I hope you enjoy it.

The Monthly Muse October

The Monthly Muse | October: Monsters Are People Too!

It's October, and the monsters are out. Unfortunately, they've still got bills to pay, relationships to maintain, and romantic entanglements to navigate.

This month's Muse is all about the mundane lives of extraordinary beings.

The Challenge:

Write a story featuring a traditionally monstrous, mythical, or supernatural character dealing with an ordinary, everyday situation or relationship. Alternatively, create an RQ character component built around the same premise and share it with the community!

Need a little inspiration?

- A fairy barista struggling to pay off her student loans offers special service to the regulars.

- Cthulhu desperately trying to get eight uninterrupted hours of sleep while his cultists continuously hold orgies to wake him up.

- A werewolf hopelessly in love with a princess, but too shy to tell her.

- A lich navigating the unfortunate consequence of ED brought on by his condition.

- A vampire discovers his favorite thrall has been cheating on him with a leech monster. He is angered at first, but realizes he has been ignoring her.

- A demon whose greatest ambition is to win the neighborhood gardening competition, but his he'll spawned plants terrify his neighbors.

- A wizard cuckhold scries on his wife as she goes to a sex club for the first time.

The only rule: Your monster must have an ordinary, relatable desire or problem. How extraordinary the consequences become is entirely up to you.

Comedy, romance, erotica, horror, tragedy, or something in between—we want to see what happens when the supernatural meets the painfully normal.

Share your story, character component, or an existing RQ creation that fits the theme in the comments.

Happy writing, and welcome to the first Monthly Muse!

Preferred Terms

I finished this story a while back and it's kind of languished, much to my chagrin. It started with the idea of "Pretty Woman mixed with Alien" and I've been very pleased with how it turned out for my first time really doing anything close to traditional romance. Hopefully it resonates with a few people :)

The story is about a prostitute living in the poorer section of Bastion Station, an orbital station that is featured in several of my Gate Frontier stories. She is offered a contract to accompany a corporate executive to a gala that seems almost too good to be true. She finds herself whisked away to experience the life of luxury in the wealthier sectors in preparation, learning that the executive, Hadrian, is more charming and personable than she ever imagined someone of his status to be, ultimately leading her to make a choice between comfort and her own autonomy. It features a slow burn romance, 0g ballroom dancing, body horror, and one major sex scene.

All of my Gate Frontier stories are Sci-Fi Horror.
