Fan noise on Retroid Pocket 6

TL;DR

Newcomer to android emulation using RP6 (12gb RAM).

Tips on decreasing fan noise/whine. (software solutions like editing fan curves didn't give me the results i was hoping for)

Fan blades sound like they're making contact with something.

Potential fixes I found:

-thermal mods like using thermal pads or putty.

-Lubricating the fan bearing

If anyone has any experiences or tips, I would love to hear them

Thank you :3

Hello everyone!

This is the first time I'm posting on here.

I've been researching and reading through this community for a while and everyone seems so delightful.

I'm very new to android emulation. I got my Retroid Pocket 6 (12Gb RAM) a few months ago. It's been a long time since I was so blown away by technology, it's so impressive. What this thing can do.

I knew going in that Switch and PC emulation is going to be very taxing on the system, but it should still be doable.

I noticed that the fan started making this whining noise after a few weeks as though something is making contact with the blades. Even before that happened, I noticed the fans getting quite loud when emulating Switch and PC games. That's pretty normal considering how much the system is being pushed. I've tried setting a custom fan curve, but having the fans kick up at a higher temperature results in the entire system, getting hotter. I want to keep it relatively cool to make sure the battery and other components have a long lifespan, however, the fan noise is still distracting. Playing at night with someone sleeping next to you it's just not feasible unless I'm playing less demanding titles.

I would love to find a way to reduce the fan noise. I've seen people do thermal putty or thermal pad mods. I also found someone that lubricated the fan bearing to make it quieter.

Perhaps it's even possible to install a more robust or larger cooling fan. I haven't found anyone do that yet.

I'm not sure if these mods are worth it, especially since it would void my warranty.

Has anyone tested these out?

Is it worth it?

Are there any other options I'm not aware of?

Thank you :3
