on day 3 of diarrhea
hello, i have a 15 yr old chihuahua and she has had the runs since Thursday. We had a bunch of friends over and i figured she got diarrhea from being anxious but we’re almost on day 4 and it doesn’t seem to be letting up and she just vomited for the first time about 20 mins ago. i recently switched her food within the past few weeks. i was not very concerned until she threw up and of course it was about an hour after our vet closed for the weekend. they open Monday and i will be making her an appointment that morning just in case.
she has had no blood in her stool or vomit, shes not acting out of the ordinary at all besides her urgency and frequency of going potty( every 2-3 hours), i am going to feed her some rice for dinner for the next couple nights and switch back to her old food.
my questions are: could this be caused by the food switch? its a little odd that it would take a few weeks to give her tummy troubles right? any other advice besides the rice? also when is it time to take her to emergency vet? i live about 30 mins from the nearest open vet but i am willing to take her if necessary and i am financially able to, i just know tummy issues usually aren’t a huge cause for concern and if i can avoid the cost i would like to. thank you!
p.s please be kind, i have had her for 13 years and i try my hardest to care for her as best i can at her age. i am in my early 20’s and have a lot of anxiety about her health because she is my childhood dog
