Help adding 500+ calories/day for children who medically need extra calorie

Hi everyone,

We have children with a genetic disease where one of the effects is that they need significantly more calories per day in order to grow properly. We are already working with a nutritionist/dietitian, so I’m not looking for medical diagnosis. The challenge is the day-to-day execution.

The goal is to add roughly 500–1000 extra calories per day, but that is much harder than it sounds with young children with limited appetit.

Current routine is roughly:

Breakfast at home, usually cereal or something similar
Lunch at school, where we have less control over what actually gets eaten

snack in the afternoon
Dinner at home, usually the most calorie-heavy meal of the day

The hard part is adding calories without making meals feel like a battle, and without on huge portion sizes Or sugar. We are especially looking for ideas that are calorie-dense, kid-friendly, and realistic.

thanks!
