One Year Update: ~1,400 grafts, Dr Dorin NY

NOTE: all pics are from the same day- please look at pics #7-9

About a year ago I had roughly 1,400 grafts done by Dr. Dorin in NY, so I figured I’d give an honest update since I posted here a few months back.

Overall: I’m glad I did it, but I’m not fully satisfied.
Under certain lighting (especially indoors) it honestly looks excellent and gives me a lot more coverage and styling flexibility than before. I’ve attached some photos where I think it came out really well. In harsher sunlight, though, the overall density still looks pretty thin, especially from certain angles.

Dr. Dorin’s philosophy is intentionally conservative, conservative hairline, conservative graft count, preserve donor supply, and build over time. He and his team were great to work with and I have zero complaints about the professionalism or experience itself.

That said, I think I went into this expecting that the first procedure would get me to a point where I could fully enjoy the result for a while before thinking about another transplant. Recently his office suggested another 1,200–1,500 grafts, which honestly made me realize this may turn into a multi-stage process over several years.

In hindsight, if I were starting over, I’d probably choose a more aggressive first pass with greater density and a stronger hairline. Not because Dr. Doran did anything wrong, but because I personally don’t want to spend the next decade repeatedly dealing with recovery, redness, and downtime every year. I’d rather get closer to the final look upfront and reassess later.

Still, I’m definitely happy to have more hair than before, and I’m growing that shit out and enjoying the ability to style it while I can.

Cost was around $12k total.

Happy to answer any questions, and I included some alternate lighting/photos for reference because lighting makes a massive difference.
