Inspired to level up my LEGO

After my 5yo asked while playing with Duplo a few months ago "do they make LEGO smaller?" I've picked up the bricks again after about 28 years. And after picking up my childhood LEGO, I've also been fortunate to pick up some bulk collections from various spots. Now after trying to look for parts through 6 & 1/2 - 60L tubs, I melted off the numbers on my credit card and have been sorting for 2 days straight. 3 down, 3 to go.....

Next on the nostalgia list!

This one was next on the list from when I was a kid. The base board was a recent pickup as the original is lost somewhere in my parents house. There were other missing bits that I was able to replace too which was handy. This is the last of the pirate theme Lego I had as a kid, on to the castle stuff next.

2 recent pickups from decades apart

I picked up both of these guys from different places this week. I'm just getting back into Lego now that my 5yo has taken an interest.

Both have a couple of pieces that have been substituted and a couple of the figs are not quite the same, but close enough to play with.

With a few other old sets and another couple of recent pickups, it won't be long before we can set up a little world to play with together.

Caribbean Clipper - 6274

I picked up my childhood LEGO last weekend and this one is the first build. My niece has had it for 15 years so I was pleasantly surprised to find it almost intact. Only the front sail missing. Looking forward to building more of them to see how much has survived the test of time.

Blast from the past - 6017 Kings Oarsmen

Next one from the childhood collection that was recently returned to me is this little cutie. The only missing part was one of the black side rails, so I swapped in the red for now. I'm going to build all of the sets (I still have instructions for) and then track down the missing parts if it sticks out too much.

I'm not a collector and I've only got this back so my 5yo and I can play with it together.

30 years later! 6274 Caribbean Clipper

After 30 years and several other sets of hands, I picked up my childhood LEGO from my niece who was the last person it was loaned to. Only a couple of bits missing that were easily replaced from the spares pile. The jib sail is the only unique piece missing, which is unfortunate but after this long and so many sets of hands not completely surprising.

Weekend play with the 5yo

We had a bit of free play with a pile of LEGO we picked up at a garage sale and these are a couple of our homemade spaceship creations. Next week's theme will be racing cars!

LEGO weekend with the 5yo

I managed to have an entire weekend free with my little one for the first time in living memory and we settled on a space theme for our play. We tipped out the "Picked up at garage/yard sales" tub of LEGO and away we went. Here are a couple of our creations just free building with what we could find. Can't wait for the next free weekend!
