Brain fog and stressed

I have been getting really bad brain fog recently and went to the gp. The first time they said i had not enough rem sleep and low iron so i took some iron tablets and went to sleep earlier but the brain fog was still there. I went a second time and they said it was because of stress. I am assuming the stress is some exams because i have my mocks coming up.

I was thinking of just waiting it out until after the exams but i realised it is affecting my studying and motivation. Is there a way to reduce this stress so i can get rid of the brain fog?

My friend is currently harming themselves by scratching themselves until they bleed but i am not that close with them. I am probably the only one that knows except for one of my friends that he is close with but she is in another country. And my friend is saying i should talk to him and provide support ecs but it is awkward because he is a guy and turns everything into a joke or just changes the subject if we talk about anything too serious. Is there a way to tell him that i am there first him without scaring him?
