Two Galarian Birds in One Day!

This morning I encountered the first Galarian Bird I've seen since the Master Ball event from last month. It was a non-shiny Articuno, so it was an easy decision to use my only Master Ball. Only 30 minutes later I encountered a non-shiny Galarian Moltres, and I threw a Golden Razz + Ultra Ball expecting it to flee as usual. To my great surprise, my Great Throw held and I went from zero Galarians in my Pokedex to two!

Time to buy a lottery ticket! 🎉

My Deal of the Month: 1879 Morgan

I typically buy MS63-65 Morgans, but when I find a deal with good eye appeal I won't pass up a problem coin.

This 1879 Morgan was graded AU Details - Cleaned. It was definitely cleaned on the obverse, as you can see some discoloration remaining around the date. There are also some light wear scratches that don't align with the blast-white coloring. Despite this, the obverse still has a significant amount of cartwheeling. Not as much as a true MS coin, but it's largely present.

The reverse is a different story, with strong cartwheeling indicative of original surfaces. There are a lot of light bag marks that I estimate as MS61, but this side of the coin is definitely MS and not AU. The AU-Details grade was definitely earned by the obverse and not the reverse!

The best part of this story is the price I paid: $50 when the melt value is currently $46. I had planned on cracking this one out for an album or a pocket piece, but it simply has too much eye appeal for that purpose. So it will stay right where it is, as an authentic PCGS Morgan dollar much nicer than its holder would suggest.

Read This Before Catching Research Mewtwo!

If you choose the Mega Mewtwo Y path and complete the encounter at stage 4 today, your Mega Mewtwo Y will come with Counter. This is the wrong move. You want to complete the encounter tomorrow so it comes with Psystrike.

If you choose the Mega Mewtwo X path and complete the encounter at stage 4 tomorrow, your Mega Mewtwo X will come with Psystrike. This is the wrong move. You want to complete the encounter today so it comes with Counter.

These are legacy moves and the game gives you zero indication of what your strategy should be. Catch the X version today, and the Y version tomorrow.

I'm one of the lucky ones!

Finally after all these years, playing PoGo since the game was released, I have my own shiny Rayquaza. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Tough Week Ahead for the Eastern Interconnection

A lot of the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic are headed for 5-7 straight days of 90+ weather, with a lot of areas forecasted for 95-100F. Heat indexes will be well over 100. This is going to be a serious test for the BES, as equipment typically begins to fail and overheat on the 3rd or 4th day of an event like this because load will be very high and there won't be opportunities for equipment to cool down overnight.

Good luck to all the operators, RCs/BAs, engineers, etc. Hopefully you get some quiet and easy Conservative Operations shifts, but I'm expecting some areas (Baltimore/Philadelphia I'm looking at you) to experience overloads and reliability issues. PJM will probably be issuing a number of Warnings and Actions this coming week, but hopefully there won't be any major EEAs.

Excuse me but I was told that the 2026 tornado season was over...

Be careful and alert if you're in the Midwest. The next few days look concerning.
