I hate Mother’s Day
I hate Mother’s Day.
Let me preface by saying I am a 43 year old mother of three boys (17, 15, 12). My reasons for the hatred of mothers are as follows:
1.My mom passed away from cancer 10 years ago. So Mother’s Day is painful. I miss her desperately some days.
2. My step sister came to town and took my step mom out for lunch. I am never invited, even though sister and I discussed it this year.
3. Finally Every year without fail my father in law “invites” us over to his and my mother in law’s house. I love my in laws and I even like them. However, We stay there for hours and don’t get home until late afternoon.
For the 17 years I have been a mom I have never once got to pick what we do or do anything that I want. So I just do laundry and cook dinner because it may as well be another random day of the year. My husband usually gets me a gift or two from the boys but sometimes I wish they wouldn’t bother so I wouldn’t have to bother with Father’s Day. I cannot say any of this because the emotional guilt tripping would feel worse than my own disappointment.
