Independent news in Geelong

I've noticed Geelong has a lot of Facebook pages that do community updates, and the Geelong Gist has just started doing a weekly round up. I'm wondering if there is a genuine appetite for an alternative to the Geelong Advertiser in the community, and whether these pages are reflective of that desire. I guess from my perspective, I'm not a big fan of the middle of the road tabloid style of journalism that the Addy does. Particularly as it seems all of Geelong's big institutions seem to scratch each other's backs. Lots of safe PR like stories. What do you think? I know the Geelong Indy is a thing, but it doesn't strike me as shaping a conversation as such.
