I’m an 85yo explorer who walked across Australia twice. My son and I run a text-only, free eLibrary for commuters, and I just finished our book on the geography of Lake Turkana.

G'day. In my younger days, I spent a lot of time walking solo through harsh, dry country—including crossing the Australian continent twice (once unsupported). I have a lifetime obsession with remote, arid landscapes and extreme environments.

To keep my mind active from bed, my son and I have been building a text-only, ad-supported eLibrary built specifically for deep reading on mobile devices without social media noise, tracker clutter, or pop-ups.

I just finalized our newest title focusing on one of the ultimate geographical anomalies on the planet: Lake Turkana.

It's the world's largest permanent desert lake, trapped in a blistering volcanic half-graben rift basin with no outlets. The water is a brilliant jade-green from cyanobacteria, it's packed with giant Nile crocodiles, and it is surrounded by the unique ash layers that preserved the oldest human footprints and fossils on Earth.

No tracking, no sign-ups, just raw geographical facts. If you want a clean, distraction-free read for your commute, here is our deep dive on the Jade Sea:

Rossack Dr Pool

Anyone know what’s the go with the inground pool just sitting in the driveway of a house on Rossack Drive in Grovedale? I feel like it’s been there for at least a year. Huge pool just taking up most of the driveway. I have to look any time I travel along that road to see if they’ve finally done something with it.

To whoevers car I witnessed get hit tonight

Walking to the car after dinner tonight and witnessed someone hit a car and drive away. If you have a small dark grey car, looks to be a 2012 Toyota Yaris, and parked on Moorabool street tonight someone driving a small blue car hit your back tire on the right side. There are scratches and part of the tire detached from the rim. Some other people witnessed it, I think someone else also took a picture.I got their number plate and will report to the non emergency line. If you see this dm me and I'll tell you the person's number plate. I hope you can get your car fixed!

Looking for a muralist/street artist for personal commission

Hello! I’ve been trying to find an artist to help with a personal project I’ve been hoping to do. I’ve been wanting to have a mural or artwork painted on a wall but have 0 artistic talent. I’ve tried to look online but the artists I’ve found don’t really have a style I’m hoping for.
Does anyone know of any local artists that do large projects or projects like this? Or might be willing to?
I would love any suggestions. Thank you in advance!!

Has anyone else noticed themselves spending more weekends in Geelong instead of Melbourne?

A few years ago I'd head to Melbourne most weekends. Now I find myself staying local because there's enough good food, markets and places to walk without dealing with the drive home. Anyone else had that change?

Restaurant recommendations

I want to go somewhere I haven’t tried. Hit me with your favourite restaurants that are not takeaway or sit, eat and go type of deal. Somewhere I can sit and have a glass of red with a nice meal. I’ve tried most in the CBD so trying to see if there is anything I’ve missed. Not surf-coast or Bellerine.

DON’T APPLY FOR PRISM GROUP SALES IN CARLTON, MELBOURNE

This was my experience.
They hired me along with a group of around 20 other people and sat us all in a room with a manager. We were given a stack of information explaining what the company does, but the main focus seemed to be how much money we could supposedly make. The manager even shared how much they earn in a year and gave the classic story about starting with nothing before becoming successful.
After a short break, we were taken downstairs to practise the sales pitch we’d be expected to use on the job. We repeated it over and over. Every time you fixed one piece of feedback, something else was suddenly wrong. Sometimes they’d criticise something they’d watched you do previously without mentioning it until later. It felt like you could never get it “right.”
At the end of the day, everyone sat back down and the boss came out to thank us for joining the company and welcome us aboard. Then, in front of everyone, they selected three people to start work the next day. The remaining 17 or so of us, including me, were told we’d be starting over the following days.
It’s now been over a month, and I’m still waiting.
To make matters worse, the boss even told one person to hand in their two weeks’ notice at their current job because they’d be starting very soon. They trusted what they were told and resigned. As far as I’m aware, they never ended up starting either.
Now I’ve seen the company advertising for another intake of new hires while many of us from the previous group are still waiting.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend applying.
Unless you want to be stringed along then be my guest

Sporting Globe is booked out for Aus vs Egypt

Is there really no other pubs in Geelong showing Aus vs Egypt even after the liquor licence extension? I've found some in Torquay and Angelsea hosting events and opening early. The Sporting Globe has fully booked out so there's obviously interest but I can't seem to find any other pub opening up.

PSA Friday morning V-line rail equipment fault after Lara inbound

City bound train being held in Geelong.

No ETA on fix. Might want to reconsider PT into the city this morning if you can. Nice to pair this up with the unscheduled bus replacement on Tuesday.

Anyone interested in a group meetup?

I’ve lived in the area for almost three years and would like to make friends with other locals. Anyone else interested in building a community together here in GeeTroit?
