Generational run finally comes to an end? What should i do, i am so lost😔
Reposting here because I forgot to include important detail, My application is MD/PhD.
My cGPA and sGPA are both mid 3.9s
I have around 3,500 hours of research through both a program at my university which was fully funded (tuition + stipend with the goal to allow underserved students to take part in research and prepare them for a future in the biomedical field) And did research at another university thru the AMGEN program. In total have 5 poster presentations and 1 oral presentation.
I have around 3,000 to 4,000 hours of clinical work as a medical assistant. At many free clinics and elsewhere internationally at humanitarian crisis.
I had quite a bit of leadership experience in undergrad through various clubs. And more leadership in my community where i was a youth mentor for “at risk” kids for about 5 years.
I also have really good letters of recommendation from my PI, from other professors, from community members. My letters of recommendation, I'd say, are really strong.
I'm also working on a side project, where I and others will launch a free clinic this summer in a medically underserved area in Atlanta. Fully sustainable for decades to come.
I’d say my personal statement and story is “unique” and strong part of my app.
Lastly, I'd say I was a finalist for a lot of competitive fellowships like Rhodes, Schwarzman, Fulbright, and Luce.
I just got my MCAT back and i got a 504, 127/123/127/127. Feeling pretty defeated. I studied for 6 months (starting score was in the 480s).
I don’t know if this is my limit or if medicine is even for me anymore. I really wanted to serve my community and give the kids i’ve helped raise a positive role model. I also need to get my life "started" Im running low on savings and need to dial up work hours eventually.
What should I do. Please give me any advice.
TL;DR: High GPA, tons of research/clinical/leadership experience, strong story + fellowship finalist status, but got a 504 MCAT after 6 months of studying and now questioning whether to retake/apply/continue pursuing medicine.
