My dog just pooped and I’m happy?

My dog had surgery on Wednesday 5/13, ivdd confirmed, still has dps. I’ve been struggling with expressing him. I get some out, and he also leaks out some himself. And wets his crate bed overnight even thought I’m waking up 5 hours after going to bed.

So today, I took him back to the vet to get some help with expression. Let’s just say, the tech was so nice, but she got an ungodly amount of urine out of him. I felt so guilty. She said it wasn’t the worst, but I wonder if she was just lying to me. It was 5pm when she did this. She told me to take him out the next time, like outside outside. I’ve been doing it indoors.

So now it was 10:30pm and I put him in his stroller and took him a usual spot of his. Picked him up and support both his front and back. As soon as I squatted down with him, he immediately went into a slight squat to poop. He lifted his tail slightly up (idk if that’s just a reflex) and it took him a bit longer than usual, but while my hand was under him around where his balls use to be, he just pooped. Squat pooped. I couldn’t tell if he also peed during this. I was and am flabbergasted.

Sorry, I’ve been doing a lot of research, but this is a good sign right? Usually? With all other variables and issues forgotten, it’s good when a dog can go on there own and form the “poop” pose?

Sorry, it’s almost midnight, I’m running laundry, waiting for 12 when he’s due his next round of pain meds. Alarm set for 5am, so I can wake up and clean him and swap sheets. Waiting on this laundry, and for the first time in exactly 1 week since he showed signs, 5 days after surgery, I cried almost happy tears.

I am (good) panicking right now

So I’m kinda “panicking” but good. My dog displayed ivdd symptoms Monday morning. By lunch he had loss all mobility in his back legs. Wednesday night he had emergency surgery and he came home Friday May 15. It’s been tough since he got back Friday night. I’m alone, lotta work. So I will preface, it’s now Sunday morning, 12am, I’m running probably my 5-6th laundry in 36 hours, and I am tired but based on the above pic…

First he hasn’t slept like this since Monday. By which I mean on his side, which was his fav way to sleep. He’s been stomach sleeping mostly, maybe slightly tilted to a side. Well after potty time, I laid him in there slightly on his side (he was laying on his other side to much I think because that visible leg was stiffer than the other during massage. I feared it was cramping up or stiff, so I aimed him to kind of sleep more on his other leg tonight). So I laid him purposely with the stiffer leg up. But when I laid him down, I swear, his back legs were curled up against his body (per usually lately since he can’t move them). He’s typically got his back legs almost up under him, closer to his chest lately. Sadly. So when I laid him down, he was curled up like that but slightly on his side. This was 2 hours ago roughly?

How are they stretched out??? I mean he’s wiggled around the crate a bit since I placed him, in different positions. I’ve seen him move around a bit within the crate. But he can’t move, so I mean like he curls up a bit and then stands on his front legs and slides up. But how did those legs get in that position?????? They are fully stretched out. Fully. Both of them. Am I losing my mind? Just looking for hope anywhere? Or is anyone else confused??? This is an exact recollection of the events.

Sorry I had to share, I have no one else to tell right now. Either way, long road ahead everyone, so if you’re here and suffering good luck and I’m sorry. I’m in the midst of it as well.
