Sorry if this has been covered before.

I’m very particular about staying right when walking in NYC including sidewalks, stairways, escalators, etc.

What’s the protocol for walking on the right, on the left side of the stairs in the subway? Is the left side of the rail just for going down or is there an up and down on each side.
