Now what ?
Homelab/server newbie. Start with I’m clueless about most of this. I have an eclectic collection of old computers. Just put together a 4u case ryzen 7 “nas” 40 tb spinning hdds , an hp z820 with 2xeon E5 2697 V2’s and 256 gb ram, 3 x old Macpro 6,1’s pretty maxed out (Linux not Mac OS)an m4 Mac mini , iMac Pro with 128 gb ram, M2 Max studio , and a couple old dell desktops. I’m putting together another 4U X99 2x E5 2697 v4 18 core 256 gb ram box. Most of these are 10 gbe lan.
So back to the title of my post. I have proxmox on the ryzen 7 nas and only omv installed as a vm. As fun as learning that I don’t know much about Linux yet is, I really have no end goal in mind here. The typical jellyfin, home automation , etc setup really doesn’t interest me. My curiosity is how people interface with their proxmox nodes. This latest box will have an rtx 3090 in it so I can dabble in LLM. I’m planning a windows vm and probably a cachy os vm. The browser interface leaves me kinda meh. Even though this box is old Xeon tech , it would be nice to connect to a couple 32 inch monitors and have a better user experience than novnc and a browser tab in Firefox. Looking for other options or just not using a hypervisor and install an OS baremetal and call it a day.
