📘 Biology Paper 6 (0620) – Tips & Guide by Zainab kazi
(I have analysed 4 years past papers than made this)
Paper 6 usually has 2–3 questions max.
🖊 Drawing questions
- Draw a magnified image (plant / animal / fungi / protoctist / prokaryote).
- Common ones: leaf, seed, cells.
- Drawing must be 2× or 3× bigger than the given image.
- Use clear lines, no shading, and neat labels.
🔍 Magnification
- Formula: Magnification = Image ÷ Actual
- Use × for magnification.
- Always write units.
- Measure using a ruler and convert to mm.
- 1 cm = 10 mm
- Sometimes they ask for magnification or actual size after drawing.
🧪 Experiments & tables
- Experiments done by a student are often given.
- Table drawing is compulsory → easy to gain full marks.
- Include:
- Headings
- Units
- What is measured (time, volume, colour change, length, concentration)
- Name of test tubes (if given).
🔄 Variables
- Independent → what you change
- Dependent → what you measure
- Controlled → what stays the same
🧠 Tip for variables
- Question says: “effect of ___ on ___”
- Before on = Independent
- After on = Dependent
❌ Errors & improvements
- Learn common errors + improvements (check the drive for the document+I'll add the link below).
- Past papers help a lot (read the mark scheme for better clarification).
📘 Knowledge-based questions
- Understand what’s happening in the experiment.
- Read textbook + syllabus.
- These are concept-based, not memory-based.
Comparing species
- Identify similarities & differences.
- Observation skills are important.
- If you don’t know the term, describe what you see clearly and read the mark scheme.
🧪 Planning an investigation (last question)
Write:
- Independent variable
- Dependent variable
- Controlled variables
- Steps
- Last step → record & observe results
- Add safety precaution (e.g. wear gloves — you usually get marks for writing this in any investigation)
