First playthrough

I've experienced a lot, but not all of the FF series. Going VII-XV and then playing I and II.

VII and IX are easily my favourite of the series so far. And with hold a huge place in my heart for video games, I have very fond memories and have dien multiple playthroughs of them both.

I thought it was finally time to get around to VI, seeing as I've always heard tons of arguments from VI fans about how it's superior to VII. I initially held off because I felt I heard too much about how great this game was and wanted to go into it without too much expectation.

I'm playing the pixel remaster, currently just finished the opera scene.

Wanted to give my initial thoughts so far.

The characters I find very charming, and humorous. I was also caught off guard by just how many characters there are overall. Feels very different from the other titles in the franchise where it's usually driven by one main protagonist.

The pacing im finding a little quick, the story telling could maybe be a little better, I feel like I'm zooming from one moment to the next. I've heard a lot about how Kefka is the vest villain etc. But I'm finding him a little underwhelming up to this point. Having said that, I do love the little extra scenes diving into the characters past, fleshing them out. Might just be that the cast is so large I haven't really had the time to connect with any one character (yet), other than maybe Locke. I'm hoping that changes as the game progresses and gets deeper into the story. After all im only about 7 hours in or so.

Combat is pretty dull so far, but I do realise I'm only just entering the magic phase of the game and it's probably going to get better. The encounter rate is insane though! Like what the hell haha, I refuse to change it as I wanted to play it how it was intended.

I'm having a great time, for me right now I don't think it quite lives up to the hype, but it would crack my top 5 even at this early stage.

What I'm hoping for is for the combat to really open up and the story start pulling me in more.
