Does Tom ask Mr Gardiner for his blessing?
In rewatching TOBS multiple times, I could believe that Tom asks The Gardiners for their blessing to propose to Mary. Or at least, speaks to them of his intention with Mary. I believe this would’ve been done in London before the Lakes trip.
I think they would’ve given their blessing but made clear it is Mary’s choice.
Mrs Gardiner’s looks at the Inn when Tom arrives suggest to me she is in on a plan.
I could even believe the Gardiners were tracking that Tom wanted to propose on the top of Scarfell.
