To apply for a new job with 2 kids under 5?
Looking for advice as really torn on what to do here.
I currently work 19 hours a week in a senior nurse role which I job share with another colleague (and friend) the job is done in two long shifts during the week so I am lucky to have this flexibility with my kids at the ages they are. I have been in this role for 6 years now.
Recently a vacancy has come up in an advanced practice role which really interests me. I have spoken to the hiring manager and I could be in with a good chance. The hours are slightly more than what I am currently doing, but would involve working an extra day (but 3 shorter days rather than 2 long ones). I would eventually earn more money as it’s a progressive role into a higher band. The hiring manager said they can be flexible around childcare and I could work from home sometimes. It seems like a great opportunity, and we could use the extra money.
My worry is rocking the boat with my kids at this age - neither sleep great and my current manager has always been very understanding with the kids. I work so well with my job share and she is my friend. I am, however, feeling a bit stagnant in my
current role and ready to learn some new skills.
Should I apply and go through the stress of having to tell my current manager and job share I might be leaving? Or leave it and not rock the boat at the moment (my kids are 5 and 2) and wait until they are a little older? I worry such a good opportunity might not come up again any time soon.
