I have been doing intermittent fasting since 2015. Second year as a resident physician I gained a ton of weight from stress and poor food choices. I have previously completed a 7 day fast pre residency. However, this was my first attempted long fast with brutal working hours. No preparation just the right mindset. Last meal was rice and Thai curry. I wanted to go 10 days. But on day 5, I decided to go ahead a break my fast just because my body felt done. I wasn’t really hungry just missed the thought of eating. I kept up with my electrolytes through the day and exercise only included steps at work.
Post fast, I kept it keto OMAD for a week because appetite was low, second week I kept it low carb OMAD.
On one of the days of the second week I went to a sushi buffet and made the choice to eat more salads, hibachi grilled meats and 2 sushi rolls. This is just what I need to start my journey back to my pre residency weight of 125 by using fasting as a tool. Going forward, I plan to stay OMAD and incorporate 30 minutes of exercise as many times a week as I can.
