First solo backpacking trip — looking for advice
Hey everyone! I’m looking for some advice. This will be my first time doing a solo backpacking trip. Unfortunately, due to some circumstances, the rest of my group can’t make it, so I’ll be going alone. I’ve been spending the last 12 hours reading and watching as much as I can about solo hiking and making sure I’m prepared.
I have all my safety gear and I’ve done some hiking in the past. Last year I did Skyline, but this will be my first time doing a multi-day trip completely solo.
I’m heading into the Tonquin Valley in Jasper:
• Day 1: Portal → Maccarib
• Day 2: Maccarib → Amethyst
• Day 3: Amethyst (no extra site to give away)
• Day 4: Hike back out to the Portal trailhead
I know solo hiking comes with some extra considerations, so I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, things you wish you had known, or anything specific to the Tonquin Valley that I should be aware of.
Also, I have a few campsites from the original trip that I no longer need. If anyone is interested in them, let me know, otherwise I’ll be releasing them back through Parks Canada.
Thanks in advance!
