FINALLY broke my plateau.

Ya’ll, I thought it was never going to happen, but it finally did this morning!😅

I’m 5’3”, 25F, started a calorie deficit about a month and a half ago at 147lbs. I steadily lost about a pound per week until I hit 144.2lbs and then proceeded to plateau for three weeks!

Granted, one of those weeks I was traveling for work, not eating the best, and was definitely going over my deficit most days of that week. But I still felt soooo discouraged seeing the exact same number … 144.2 … pop up for three weeks in a row. Seeing no movement on the scale whatsoever made me feel like I was going crazy, and I was damn near in tears last week with frustration, but continued to be consistent.

I woke up this morning absolutely dreading my weigh-in, thinking I was probably going to see the stupid number 144.2 yet again … but this morning I was 143.4! It really isn’t that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but holy heck it feels good to finally see a different, lower number on the scale and I just needed to share. 😅Onward! Feeling proud that I didn’t throw in the towel despite the frustration.

Confused on how people lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.

Hello! I am 5’3”, 25F, currently 144lbs. I started my calorie deficit journey 3 weeks ago and have lost 3 pounds since then, so it’s great to see the scale steadily moving down!

Currently my only form of exercise is walking. I walk outside for about an hour, 7 days per week. I love walking and it’s been part of my routine for years. It’s low-impact, easy for me to stick to, great for my mental health, and it doesn’t make me hungry.

I know realistically I need to start adding strength training to my routine, but I’m quite nervous about doing so while also attempting to lose fat. I’ve strength trained on and off in the past, but always end up quitting after a few months because 1. It’s very boring to me (I hate having to stand around and rest for 1-2 minutes in between sets) and 2. It makes me RAVENOUSLY hungry. Because lifting makes me so hungry, it makes it incredibly difficult for me to stay at a deficit or maintenance. I always end up gaining fat on top of muscle when I do strength train, I never actually lean out.

I know everyone hollers about eating enough protein when you’re working on gaining muscle, because it helps keep the hunger at bay. But so many high-protein foods are also high in calories, and I’ll end up binging on them just to stop the hunger pains, thus putting me into a calorie surplus. It’s such a frustrating vicious cycle.

I guess my question is, would it be a better idea for me to lose some fat first before adding strength training into my routine? Or does anyone have any tips for gaining muscle while also steadily losing fat?

Gum behind back molar loose and painful after my cleaning??

Hi, I had a dental cleaning five days ago. It was my first in several years (I know, I know - I don’t need a lecture.) I’m 25 years old and have a generally healthy mouth, no history of gum disease or anything. Had all wisdom teeth removed when I was 17.

Because it had been a while since my last cleaning, my hygienist (who was amazing) really had to dig in and get aggressive in certain spots. She warned me I might be sore for the next day or two, and I figured it’d be no big deal. But holy hell … I’m on day five post-cleaning and my gums, specifically behind my two lower back molars, are incredibly sore and painful to the touch. What’s really freaking me out is that on my right back molar, the gum behind my last molar is actually loose and I can pull it away from the tooth - there’s a gap there now. It’s so strange looking and it really hurts.

I’ve been doing the typical salt water rinses and ibuprofen regimen, which helps a bit, but is this normal?? I’ve never had this happen to me with a cleaning before (although, granted, my previous cleanings were all regular 6-month cleanings, and it hadn’t been years between appointments like this one was).

Best spot in the Snowies for swimming?

What the title says. Any good lakes for swimming up in the mountains? Trying to avoid the ridiculously crowded spots if possible. Would also be open to swimming spot suggestions at Curt Gowdy.

How do you deal with shame about your weight?

Hi all. This community is incredible, thanks for being here. I’m 5’3”, 25F and am just starting my calorie deficit journey. The last time I weighed myself was about two years ago, and I was 133lbs. I was quite happy and healthy at that weight. Then I got into a relationship. I knew I was gaining some weight because my clothes were starting to fit just a smidge tighter, but I wasn’t too worried about it. I figured it was just a few pounds of happy weight.

But a few weeks ago, I had some photos taken of myself and was absolutely shocked. I looked HUGE and my hips looked so wide. I almost cried when I saw the photos. I weighed myself the next morning and came in at 147lbs. That number was absolutely staggering to me! It was more than a few - I’d gained 14 pounds, which as you fellow petite people know, is quite a lot for our frames.

I’m still just in shock that I let myself get to this point and somehow didn’t notice. I knew my clothes were getting tighter, but they still fit, and I had no idea how much I’d let myself go. I’m sad that I have so much weight to lose, and also just so ashamed. I want this weight off NOW. (Even though I know, of course, it’s likely going to take me several months). I’m just so sad. How do you guys shake off the post-scale blues and continue to stay disciplined and patient??

Does the crazy bleeding on Opill ever stop??

I got on Opill several months ago because I’d previously tried the combo pill and had terrible side effects. I thought a progestin-only pill might work better for me, and I liked that I didn’t have to worry about getting a prescription for Opill and that it’s easily accessible at the store.

I just started my fifth pack. I honestly have had a really good experience with Opill, and have had pretty much zero side effects. No mood swings, no depression, no sore boobs, no increased appetite - all things that I experienced on the combo pill.

The only negative thing about Opill: the BLEEDING. Holy hell, the bleeding. I actually prefer a birth control that allows me to have a period, because it reassures me that I’m not pregnant, but I don’t want to bleed THIS much. For the first three packs of the pill, I had two periods a month. I’ve always had super regular and predictable cycles, so this was hard for me, but I’d read online that if I just gave my body time to adjust, the irregular bleeding would eventually level out. On the fourth pack, I had one regular period that month, and was relieved. I thought that maybe, finally, my body was adjusting and I was done having two periods a month.

But I just got my period AGAIN yesterday after my previous one ending a week and a half ago. I’m so tired of the cramps and back pain and heavy bleeding all the damn time. Did this ever get better for anyone on Opill?? I’m so sad that this is causing me to have a negative experience with it, because aside from the bleeding, it’s been an absolute breeze. But I just don’t know how much longer I can stand this.

Losing weight as a girly who does not like veggies😅

Hey all - 25F, 5’3”, 145 pounds here. I’m starting my weight loss calorie deficit journey (aiming to get to 125 pounds!) and have been doing lots of research on healthy meal and snack ideas.

My biggest hurdle - and I acknowledge that this is going to sound silly, as a grown adult - I really, really dislike most veggies. I’ll eat fruit ALLLLL day long. I love all fruits. But for my entire life, I have never been a fan of most vegetables. Especially broccoli. And sooooo many calorie-deficit friendly meals/dinners include broccoli! I just can’t stand the texture of it, it’s gross.

I also dislike asparagus, spinach, tomatoes, cabbage, zucchini, celery, etc. Green beans, carrots, lettuce, and peas are okay, but still not my favorite. I just am not a veggie person, and it’s something I’ve accepted about myself. Which is unfortunate, because I know they’re extremely important for weight loss and other health benefits such as fiber.😅

I guess I’m half looking for advice on how to sneak more veggies into my diet without getting grossed out by them, and half just looking to commiserate with other ladies who also are not veggie fans, and are trying to make weight loss work for them despite that!

What the heck is this on my back upper tooth???

I’m 25F, brush twice a day with a Sonicare electric toothbrush. Admittedly, I haven’t been to the dentist for a cleaning/checkup in about two years due to graduating college, being broke as heck, and not having dental insurance. Have had two or three cavities in my lifetime, but they were years ago and haven’t ever had any major dental issues.

Was brushing earlier and this caught my eye. There’s this weird … stuff on one of my back upper teeth. Doesn’t come off with brushing. I’m worried - is this staining or possible decay?

Tips on not binging at dinnertime?

Hey all! 5’3”, 145lbs here. One of the biggest hurdles I find myself hitting in my calorie deficit journey is binging at dinnertime. I find it easy to stick to my deficit for breakfast and lunch, but once dinner rolls around, I have a tendency to snack while I cook. I’ll be standing at my stove, making dinner, and then decide that I need a little something to “tide me over” before dinner’s ready, so I’ll get out a bag of chips, only intending to have a few … but then next thing I know I’ve eaten five servings of chips, a cookie, a piece of cheese, etc., and I’ve absolutely ruined my deficit for the day.

I do typically eat a protein-filled snack in the afternoon, so it’s not even that I’m super hungry by the time I get around to making dinner and therefore binge. It just seems to be a bad habit that I can’t kick, and it’s really hurting my progress. Anyone have any advice or ideas on how to combat this??
