Natural supinator facing inner ankle soreness switching from Pegasus to Adizero Evo SL. Quit or push through?
Hey everyone, looking for some gear and biomechanics advice.
I run a 10-mile weekend long run on city asphalt. I used to run in the Nike Pegasus. I am a natural supinator/underpronator (distinct wear patterns on the outer edge of my shoes), and towards the end of my time with the Pegasus, the outer rear heel foam had frayed and compressed quite a bit. I also started getting pain in the front of my feet because the Pegasus lacked the deep cushioning needed for heavy concrete miles.
To fix the forefoot pain and get more protection, a few weeks ago I bought the Adidas Adizero Evo SL.
The Lightstrike Pro cushioning completely solved the forefoot pain, but it has created a brand-new issue. Because of the aggressive posterolateral heel bevel on the Evo SL, combined with the soft, high stack height and lack of midfoot stability, I feel like the shoe is forcing my foot to rapidly twist and slam flat the second I land. I just finished a 10.3-mile run at a 9'32" pace, but now the inside of both of my ankles (right around the inner bone/arch) are noticeably sore and strained. It feels like my inner tendons are working overtime to fight the twisting motion. I have run 3 or 4 times already in this shoe and have felt the ankle soreness almost every time.
Has anyone else who supinates experienced this with the Evo SL's heel bevel and softer foam? Is this just an adaptation phase for my ankles, or should I look for a max-cushion shoe with a wider, flatter, more stable neutral platform?
For context, I only run once a week on weekends and do 3 days of heavy lifting (upper body and legs) during the week.
Appreciate any help!
