Have you ever been to a restaurant lately, usually a local burger place or fried chicken place, and you look at their menu, and you see AI generated monstrosity staring back at you? You can tell because they're usually over-saturated with texture. Like, the fried chicken would look so crispy and perfectly, evenly fried that it suddenly resembles a chickenpox victim's skin. Or the burger sauce would drip down the patty in a thousand scrumptious strands. That's probably what AI think is appetizing, but the images look so uncanny that it kills your appetite. The Japanese, as always, has it figured out. They have mastered the art of creating fake food models with wax and resin. They were created by hand, and the cost of making one is usually more expensive than making the real food in the kitchen. To make a perfect food model, the masters include imperfections. For example, they would include cloudiness in a grilled fish's eye to suggest that, while the fish is fresh, the chemistry of cooking would leave its mark, and our brain would subconsciously recognizes that.

Anyway. Yeah. The flag was designed by the guy who happens to be the township's Supervisor.

The Massachusetts Seal, Flag, and Motto Advisory Commission expanded the finalists from 3 (previously reported here) to six. The Commission couldn't really agree on what to do next and defers to education committees to propose a public education campaign and consultations with indigenous communities. Read more here.

This flag received 179 of 229 votes. Reasons cited by Commissioners include it being overly conventional and text-heavy. (It's probably also AI generated.)

A circular emblem on a navy blue field is intended to emulate the Pennsylvania state flag.

Inside the circle, stylized white and teal imagery depicts two prominent local landmarks: the historic bell tower of the Sewickley Municipal Hall and the Sewickley Bridge, which spans the Ohio River to connect the borough with Moon Township.

The design also incorporates copper accents derived from the local police department’s uniform patch.

This flag symbolizes Flowood’s natural beauty, steady growth, and community spirit. The dogwood flower, anchored at the center, represents the city’s character and heritage, as well as its Four Corners retail district, considered the heart of Flowood and often referred to locally as “Dogwood.”

Green reflects growth and progress; Blue represents loyalty, pride, and the surrounding waters, including the Ross Barnett Reservoir and Pearl River; White signifies renewal and new beginnings; A gold dividing line represents Lakeland Drive, a defining corridor of the city

According to officials, this specific colour combination was chosen partly due to its rarity, which they contend will enhance visual recognition. The central blue stripe features a wavy pattern with seven distinct undulations.

Local authorities state that this design mimics the local watercourse Zuidlede, while the seven waves correspond to the seven population centres now comprising the unified municipality.

A prominent feature introduced to both the flag and the coat of arms is a stylized red azalea, to emphasize the region’s commercial floriculture and ornamental plant industries.

The flag is divided into two parts. The top represents the area’s long sunshine hours and clear blue skies, which have “created a region of vineyards, orchards and a sun-kissed coastline”.

The bottom features a golden V representing Tasman Bay, intersected with six blue and white stripes to show the maritime communities of the bay. These include Māpua and Ruby Bay, as well as Kaiteriteri, Marahau, Motueka and Nelson.
