How to protect and repair these cabinets
We remodeled fairly recently(within the last year) and these are brand new cabinets , custom made by a contractor (he makes these himself) that we really trusted and he
delivered to our aesthetics. However starting from the first month we started noticing that wherever water got in contact, it started having these blister like look. Over time now some of it has started peeling showing the base color.
When we contacted the contractor, he initially told us that we need to be really careful with the water spillage. After months now and seeing how even small drops of water have caused damage that too away from the sink , it tells me that he probably did not think about the material being used (melamine) or that he didn’t put some protection on it.
Before this causes more damage, I would like to understand what is going on here, is Melamine not supposed to be used for kitchens?
We paid over $40000 for these overall. While he did a good design and install, these were supposed to last years without much damage. I called him a couple of times and shared pics but he always says he would come but hasn’t made it here.
What recourse do I have to get these replaced or repaired. We did not sign a detailed contract for this.
