Pumpfoil front wing for wingfoiling??

Im in Hood River right now trying to dial in my wingfoiling….im at the point of struggling trying to get up on foil.

I have a 120L board with a slingshot hoverglide mast + Infinity 99 front wing (2371 sq cm). But this is old technology.

Im wondering if i should switch to my takoon 1700 pumpfoil to see if i have success with that. Thoughts???

Any reason using a good pump foil would not be a good idea? I understand, maybe it would want to lift to easily especially if its not too windy? But if i go into with that understanding, i feel like it would at least give me some confidence in getting up on foil, which has been such a struggle for me.

(Also, i had a wingfoil lesson today, but unfortunately wind conditions kinda died down a bit, so i didnt get a real chance to try getting up on foil on the business’ foil….but my instructor talked mad trash about the Infinity 99 and told me to try the Takoon 1700). I just want to make sure this isnt some one-off opinion/bad advice

Thanks

Did i order the wrong foil?

I bought a takoon 1900 pumpfoil, but they dont have that available right now…and they offered me an “upgrade” to a 1700 instead. I said yes. But now im wondering if im too heavy for that.

Im quite the beginner/learning. And im 190lbs.

Is it something that would be slightly harder to learn on than the 1900, but as i progress, i will be glad to have the 1700?

Learning progression

Im getting really frustrated. I started trying to learn wingfoiling last summer. Havent gotten up on foil yet. Since then, i have tried efoiling, which i found really easy. Figured that out in about 45 minutes. Now, in the meantime before wind kicks up in my town, i’ve been giving pumpfoiling a go in order to 1) reinforce that feeling of being on foil and 2) to teach me how to pump for when that could be useful with wingfoiling.

Anyways, how long does it take ya’ll to figure out pumpfoiling. Im probably about 10 sessions in (200-300 attempts) and im struggling! Seeing such slight improvement with each session. Currently able to get ~5 pumps every once in a while. Still dont have great balance on it.

Is this long of learning progression normal? Or am i just slow? 😐

(Im using a slingshot infinity 99 front wing…im assuming that is appropriate. Same front wing that im attempting wingfoiling with)
