Board advice

What would this fine group of people recommend in my situation? I am getting and staying on foil consistently. Learning to connect jibes. Was able to do it a few times. Falling a lot as I learn. 80kg. Riding in choppy conditions often, in low wind also often. My starter board is a 140 liters barge. Used a friend's 115L Armstrong FG and it worked well. Bought myself a used 95L Duotone Skyfree TE. Struggling when choppy - not stable enough for my current level. Looking at some options.

A) Power through and get used to that 95L.

B) Buy a mid length in 110-120 size. Hopefully bugger size gives a bit of stability now and I can then use it for low wind sessions. There is a 2025 115L Duotone Skybird SLS 115 sold for $1k nearby.

C) Buy a regular shape 110-120 like that Armstrong I liked.

Goal is to have something that will help progress now and that I would not want to sell too quickly. Leaning towards B, but never rode mid length and worried it will still be unstable when choppy. What would you do?

Generic pump for Wing

I'm looking to buy a secondhand wing to practise on land with my surfskate, but most people that sell a wing do so without a pump, my question is if a generic pump, let's say from Decathlon will do the trick?

JP R-Winger still good?

Hi all, I want to buy a new board. I am able to jibe now and have a very solid pumping technique. I want to buy a 2nd hand board and found the JP R-Winger, which seems to be a mid length board (the kind I prefer).
Is there someone who can recommend this board?
Found a 95l version for 500€. My own weight is around 72kg.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts :)

$1250 used setup - good price and good for beginner?

Hi all, I have no wing foiling experience but would love to learn the sport. I came across this used setup for sale in my area, but curious: is this a good price ($1250)? And would this be a good setup for a beginner?

For reference: I have 10+ years of sailing experience, have an e-foil, and am in decent physical shape, so I’m fairly confident I can self teach. I’m ~190lbs on a good day, but not sure how that affects board/foil selection. Thanks!

How Reliable are wind ratings on wings?

I am on a 5m Naish Matador for my daily driver atm and its time to upgrade. There are a lot of 10-12 knot days, so low end is important but also flagging out well for wave riding. Also im 165lb

I was looking at the newer Nova North, the Reedin Supernatural, and the Duotone Unit all at 5m or as close as i can get to it.
I really wanted the Reedin because its supposed to be really light in the hand but great at flagging, but its rated at 11-23, so I'm worried that I wont have the power I need to get going.

I'm trying to stick to a 5 just for ease of wing handling through jibes and tacks.

Do you buy your equipment online or from a physical shop - and why?

When buying a wingfoil gear above €1000, do you buy directly from the brand's webshop or from a physical shop? And why?

Overpowered causing nose to dip

I think a lot of this might be stance and ability, but something I've noticed the last couple of days is when I go down a foil size (Naish 1440 from 1800), when I'm powering up (gust coming through) then the nose seems to dip. I noticed this the other day when I went down from a 6m to 5m wing, without changing anything else, I felt more balanced. Yesterday I was out on the 1800ha for a couple of hours on a 5m and felt pretty balanced. Today on the 1440ha with 5m in similar gusty conditions, when ever the wind picked up, I felt the nose dive (had to load up back leg) each time I sheeted in / went to go faster. Is there something about stance / position that means when you power up, the nose of the board wants to dip?

What would you ride on these conditions?

This is a very common day where I live: lightwind with some 12-14 kn gusts; small waves (-1m) and short period (4-6s).
With my current setup I can only get on foil (Fluid XL 1500cm) with the gusts; and have trouble mantaining on foil after the gust.
I'm thinking either getting a midlength board, a bigger wing (I use a 4.6m) or both. I weight 70kg. Any recommendations?

F-one foil with sabfoil torpedo

Hi everyone
I am getting a great deal on a new sabfoil torpedo 110L. I use f-one foils. The f-one foils use M6 and sabfoil seems to be using M8.

I tried some M8 screws and they don’t fit in the mast holes. Do I just use M6 screws with the right length? Or do I drill the mast holes slightly wider? I am currently on the aluminium mast but would like to switch to the new carbon masts eventually.

Advice on buy my first wing

I am looking at buying my first wing and saw this on facebook. We don't have a large market here in South Africa so options are limited but I am happy to wait longer and save for a better one if recomended. It is made by SPG but they don't make wings anymore and I cannot find any information on it online. The seller says its in excelent condition but I guess they all do.

I can't find the sweet spot, advice needed

I'd like to share some info before:
I've about 30 sessions of experience, however I'm still a beginner, I am 186cm tall and weigh 90kg (at about 10% body fat, so almost muscle due to the gym and athletic life style with many sport practiced)

My home spot is on the lake where there's wind in the range of 8 to 20kn and a terrible chop of about 20-30cm every 1-2m distance between the waves

My gear is a Duotone Sky Start 2025 155lt, a fanatic Aero Lift 2400 with 82cm mast which I use also with my new Duotone Free 2.0 1900, wings are a Duotone Unit SLS 2025 5.5m and a North Loft Pro 2024 8.0m

In today session I had about 14kn of wind with 20cm chop, used the sky start 155lt, the free 2.0 1900 with its px260 stab, and the north 8m wing.

Until 13 kn I almost couldn't lift (I can pump with arms but not yet with legs) also on borad reach, but once wind picked up at 14-15kn (almost top end limit for the north loft pro 8m that I've been able to hold thanks to climbing muscles in my arms) the board would lift but at that point no matter how much weight I would load on my front foot (still in broad reach) I couldn't flatten the board that slowly but suddenly breached and slammed back on the water. This same exact behavior happened many times, very difficult to lift and once in air I couldn't stop it.

I've tweaked a lot the mast position trying all the possible positions, however if put back I don't lift, if in front the time to breach reduces meaning that I can achieve less fly time because lift is too aggressive.

What I experience is a sort of black/white without the gray in between where I can't seem to lift untill then I finally detach from water and at that point it keeps going up but without possibility to spot it, or better, I can stop it by loading full 90kg on the front foot and the board slams on the water or if I depower (tried various percentages and possibilities of depowering) but at that point I go instantly back on water as I don't have enough power to stay in flight.

with the aero lift 2400 I had the same issue, I bought the free 2.0 1900 thinking that the aero lift 2400 was way too overpowered for me, the fact is that I can lift at lower speeds and this is appreciated, however once I start to lift 2 things happen it ventilates and becomes really unstable (a lot of turbolence due to the power) or it starts to lift and I can't stop it. the time to breach of the 2400 is even shorter as it goes full in with the power and the lift is brutal

So I thought that the 1900 would be more gradual, and yes it is, but I need to go faster to lift, so less lifting opportunities in a choppy lake and however still lifts me too much because looks like once in air I am too overpowered.

the 2400 I can lift it with both 8m wing at 10kn and 5.5m wind at >15kn wind

the 1900 I couldn't manage to lift it with the 5.5 as at 15kn I couldn't do it and I did it with the 8m at >13kn

My feet position (I forgot to talk about them till now sorry), I don't use straps and position my front foot in the strap position and the back foot in front of the back strap position, sometimes in the strap position because due to chop I need more stability.

So to resume it I feel like it's an on/off switch I don't have enough power to fly and once I fly I have too much power and mast positioning, body positioning, foil changing, wing changing didn't solve this problem.

If once in flight to stabilize the foil i lean on the wing and go a bit upwind it's even worse as the pressure on the front foot is unbearable and the breach happens in a shorter time, 2-3 seconds instead of 5-6 seconds.

I don't know if it's at this point something related to me but seeing other people (beginners) fly with a lot of delicacy and time to move/act, while to me seems something I really can't find all the grey area of management they have.

I hope someone can give me some hints because frustration is starting to kick in and I think I've tried almost everything possible for my body and the gear I have.

Axis setup: looking for my next front wing

Hello foiling experts,

I'm currently using an ART V2 999 front wing, with a Skinny 365/55 stab.

I'm looking for my next front wing in my progression. My program is purely wingfoiling, looking to go faster, and trying to start progressing from my bunny hops to slightly higher jumps. Riding bumps flagging the wing is also in the program. I'm 90kg.

Would a Fireball 1000 be a good option? It would be a substantial area reduction, from 1038cm2 to 773cm2.

Thank you for your input.

21mm H-R/Bayonet to 27mm bayonet adapter

My Google-fu is failing big time on this.

My Gong wing takes a 27mm bayonet (OD). My Gong board takes a 21mm and that's also what my inflator pump has. The Gong hand pump has a 27mm bayonet which fits the wing and an adapter for the board.

Is there a 21mm female to 27mm male bayonet adapter out there, so I can use my electric pump to inflate the wing?

Need to convert the right one to the left one

Am I dumb or is my Duotone valve broken?

Hey guys

I bought a used 2023 Duotone unit and I never had Duotone wings. I bought the adapter but somehow it doesn’t stick correctly and when I remove it the air goes out from the inflatable valve.

I thought that I needed to insert and turn it clock wise to inflate and then later counter clock wise to make the valve “lock”. I’ve tried all of the possible ways.. any ideias?

Edit: thanks for the suggestions but I think it is indeed broken because when I turn it clock wise, it just keeps turning and it doesn’t lock, I compared with a spare one that I have and on that one, when I turn clock wise it locks, similar to when you close a water bottle 🫩

Wingfoil obsession is causing deep FOMO

Hi all,

I have been wingfoiling for 2+ years and I am really obsessed with it. I spend so much time thinking about it, checking models, planning trips and what gear to buy. I love wingfoil, the challenge, the progression, the techy gear aspect of the sport. I try to go as much as I can, while also making sure to prioritize work, family and friends.

The problem is that this obsession is causing me deep FOMO. Every time it is windy and I can’t go on the water because of family, work, or injury, I just struggle so much and can’t think about anything else. I just get grumpy. I wish I could just rationally think this is just a windy day and there will be many others. Instead I constantly focus on what I am missing out on, friends progressing as I am not, and I am incapable of enjoying anything else.

Am I the only one facing this?

Writing this as I am currently looking at the trees outside my house being blown by the wind as I am recovering from injury.

Wingfoil + Inline Rollerblades?

Heya, I've been looking into ways to combine some form of lift/sail into Rollerblading for a while and only today discovered Wingfoil. I was curious as to the logistics of rollerblades + skates? Would I be able to generate lift on windy days, do some gliding in-air and generate speed or drag with the sail in general?

I'm TOTALLY new to this, so patience (as well as your time of course) would be very appreciated!!

Bit of a dilemma

I can dock start a pump foil and have plenty of foiling experience behind a boat, but live in about the gustiest inland lake conditions you can imagine. I’m totally cool with a minute ride and then waiting around for the next gust but I am having trouble taxiing up to speed enough to pump onto foil. I currently ride a 6’8” long 23” wide 115 L AFS whitebird with a gen 1 North HA1450 wing (MA now). I am tired of pumping right at borderline taxi speed only to barely miss the foil lift and have the wind die. I’m 93 kg dry and am wondering if I upgrade to a Cabrinha swift 125 L and only 21” wide will help me taxi up to speed faster without having to get a draggy beginner foil instead. Any advice from people in the same boat? Will the more downwind 21” width shaving 2 inches and adding 10 L be enough of a difference to taxi up significantly faster? Or would I be better off just getting a bigger MA1850 beginner foil? I’m not worried about balance issues losing width, Just worried about breaching and losing maneuverability with a big foil. 1450 seems to be my perfect spot for my speeds and carving, I like it a lot! Thanks for any advice
