Beginner board suggestions

Hi guys, I'm a beginner in wingfoiling. I already have the following stuffs:

- RRD Beluga 90l (too small for me)

- RRD Evo Wing 5.5

- RRD foil: 2400 front and 85 must

I actually do taxi when the sea is flat but cannot fly on the foil yet. I also know the board is too small for me right now (my weight is 82kg), Im in trouble when the sea is not flat or there is some strong wind..

I can buy the following boards from local shops, which one do you suggest me to take?

  1. Fanatic sky wing 130l 6'0 (new) for 700€ my2021
  2. RRD Beluga LTE ML 135l (used, almost new) for 800€ my 2025
  3. RRD Beluga LTE 125l (used, almost new) 600€ my2025

Gong HIPE Perf for beginner

Hey all! I need a bit of advice: I took 2 classes of wingfoil (will take 2 or 3 more), but I'd like to take the summer sales opportunity to buy my gear. I was thinking of the Gong HIPE Perf in 5'3 or 5'1 (100L or 75L) : https://www.gong-galaxy.com/products/gong-pack-wingfoil-inflatable-hipe-perf-26?variant=56400650142071

I already surf, skate, did a bit of windsurf and sailing. My first 2 classes went super well, the teacher says I evolve fast and I understand the dynamics easily. He didn't say much but doesnt seem to be fond of the Gong boards.

He says the F1 rocket air 5'4 90L would be better (he doesn't say why though)

What are your opinions? I'd like something I'm not gonna sell in 1 month because it's too beginner oriented, but rather something I can evolve and progress on. Thanks for the help!

Marketplace Find

Hey everyone, I’m looking to get into foiling. I own a 5.0 wing and have been windsurfing for a while. I want to pick this rig up for wing foiling for about $800 and want to ask if this would be a proper setup / friendly for beginners especially because there are no straps? The foil is a RideEngine Mantra 76. Thanks.

Ankle fusion

A bit of an odd one but will be left with a fused (tibio-talar fusion) ankle after a resection and reconstruction for bone cancer. Was learning to wing foil before this happened.

Are there any wing foilers out there with a fused ankle? Any chance I'll still be able to do this after i've recovered?

thanks

Imagine - all manufacturers agree on a Universal valve system and you don't have all these pumps

So, I have 3 wings, varying manufacturer, varying sizes.

I've got Fanatic sup pumps up the wazoo because the OH is a SUP instructor, but of course they don't even register on the gauge so useless for pumping a wing.

I now have a Duotone pump - and none of the wings I have use their sized bayonet for the screw to match.

Now I've got a dozen adapters, and none of them are right, and don't give you a decent reading either. It's so pathetic, all these companies are no unicorns, we've got 99% of the iSUP industry now on the same valve system, think it is long overdue the same for wings and kites.

What you think?

Ease of travelling with wingfoil

It is often mentioned that one of the advantages of wingfoil and inflatable boards in particular is that it is easier for travel.

Flying with Wizzair 32kg sports equipment is same price as 23kg normal luggage. Loaded it to the max with gong xxl pack, all clothes and extra gear.

Just thinking, it could easily be rigid board there instead or even a full windsurf kit.

As someone who normally travels with small backpack, assumed sports equipment was much more expensive and inflatable wingfoil would fit into a regular 20/23kg bag (mine does not, but I can see it being feasible when I move to a smaller board - still no reason not to take sports option instead for extra 10kg)

Am I missing something ?

Keeping wing clean

I’m very new to the sport and I’m trying to figure out how to make my gear last. When putting away my wing, it is quite sandy each time. I cannot imagine avoiding this as I have to put it away on the beach. how big of a deal is this? is it harmful if I store the wing a bit sandy? how do people avoid getting the wing sandy?

also, how big of a deal is it if my wing isn’t completely dry when I store it? I generally fly it for 10-15 minutes to dry it off before packing it. but it always is still damp. I’m only in saltwater so I’m hoping that keeps mildew from forming but I wonder how dry it needs to be.

thanks!

How should I repair it?

Hello everyone.
I saw this tear on my wing. It is not clean tear yet, but I can see through it at some points. Can I repair it myself, and if so how, or I should send it to the shop for professional repair?
Thanks!

Gear advice

Hi. So I foildrive in waves quite a lot and have recently also picked up a pump foil which I’m trying to learn. I’ve then also kitesurfed in the past (stopped a year ago when I got into foiling) a good bit but that doesn’t really help here at all.

I’m ~75kg. What wing size should I be looking for if I was aiming to use a 34L board, Armstrong 725 performance mast, TC70 fuse, maybe like an MA1000 wing?

Ik the board is quite small. But it is an old wing foil board I got from a mate that I then used to learn to foildrive on.

Just looking to add a sport that I can do on those windy days where it’s not ideal for the Foildrive or pump foil. So I’d ideally like to use my existing gear if possible and then just get a wing.

Reflections on week one

Bought a foiling set up and did a week-long boot camp with it. Here are my reflections for any other beginners!

Where? Scotland. Mixture of sea and inland (lochs). The sea was way harder because of the waves. Should have stuck inland only.

Kit setup? Naish hover wing foil 110L, Naish 1400 foil with 75cm mast, and freewing go 4.5m. Bought the setup used for £950, split between me and my buddy.

Training progression? We both have a SUP and sailing background and a bit of wakeboarding. We did some cable wakeboarding, then some wakefoil towing, then used the wing on the beach, and finally spent three full days attempting to wingfoil, taking it in turns on the wing foil and following on a touring SUP.

How did we get on? By the end of the third day, we could wing surf competently (taxiing standing up). Very occasionally we get on foil in brief gusts, but not sustained flights.

Reflections? The main challenge we had was that the 4.5m wing was a bit small for beginners (70-85kg) to get on foil on a big board in light winds (10-15mph). It was much easier to balance in higher winds: forward momentum stabilised the board. Falling off a lot (50 times a day each x 3 days, at a guess) and having to hold the wing up in light winds, rather than pulling it down in stronger winds, was exhausting. But we had a week off work and made the most of the conditions we had.

What next? We got the bug! We've got alerts set up on the windy app for winds that are in the narrow window we need and will look to buy a bigger wing when budget allows.

Observations on beginner provision? It was hard to find any wing foiling schools in Scotland. There are a few providers but they're very expensive. Not many Clubs either. I can see why - high chance of injury and/or kit damage and of students being disappointed and leaving bad reviews. So we bought the kit and learned independently. Buying the kit is expensive. I noticed lots of people selling nearly new set ups - presumably lots of people never get beyond the pain and frustration of trying to get on foil. This is not an accessible sport and it's easy to see why it hasn't yet become really popular. Although it's also interesting to see that more accessible sports like windsurfing also seem to be falling in popularity. I think it's similar to skiing, in a way: lots of expensive kit, steep learning curve, very conditions dependent, but with big rewards once you master it.

Pumpfoil front wing for wingfoiling??

Im in Hood River right now trying to dial in my wingfoiling….im at the point of struggling trying to get up on foil.

I have a 120L board with a slingshot hoverglide mast + Infinity 99 front wing (2371 sq cm). But this is old technology.

Im wondering if i should switch to my takoon 1700 pumpfoil to see if i have success with that. Thoughts???

Any reason using a good pump foil would not be a good idea? I understand, maybe it would want to lift to easily especially if its not too windy? But if i go into with that understanding, i feel like it would at least give me some confidence in getting up on foil, which has been such a struggle for me.

(Also, i had a wingfoil lesson today, but unfortunately wind conditions kinda died down a bit, so i didnt get a real chance to try getting up on foil on the business’ foil….but my instructor talked mad trash about the Infinity 99 and told me to try the Takoon 1700). I just want to make sure this isnt some one-off opinion/bad advice

Thanks

Learner here: stuck the stabiliser through the wing

Yeah it sucks, but my question is, is this normal? I’m learning to Wingsurf, in the UK. I had 5 lessons and could go out, take flight, turnaround and comeback! Awesome, I thought, and bought a load of gear!

I’m very time poor as I have two kids and two jobs, I can only Wingsurf on a Thursday so I get out about once a month with my new gear! The first time I went out, I was wobbly as hell and couldn’t control the wing, I was overpowered, so bought a smaller wing. Today was Thursday, both kids in school, zero work meetings for either job and it was windy, so took my 4 m wing out, the first hour was messy but then it all came back, the control, turning, flight and was working on sustained flight when I just hit the water hard! My board fell and floated upside down and my wing landed on, and went through the stabiliser! Gutting! Has this happened to any of you?

Looking for stake to tether wing to

I want to buy a stake rather than a sandbag to tether my wing to after I pump it while I’m setting equip up. does anyone have a recommendation for one they would trust in sand? I’m concerned it’ll pull out and blow away if I don’t get a solid one.

thanks!

Another beginner lightwind gear question: 2026 Gong HIPE Like vs 2025 Perf

I'm planning to get into wingfoiling as soon as possible, but on a relatively tight budget and in light wind conditions (would be nice to be able to go out in 8-10 knots once I'm skilled enough).

I weigh 72 kg. Both packages have a 5sqm wing and the same X-Over V3 foil with a 95cm front wing and a 44cm stab. The Perf board is 5'5 and 125L, the Like board is 6'4/120L or 7'0/140L.

I'm mostly wondering how much better the the low wind performance of the like board is an whether it's worth the sacrifice (and an additional €120).

Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance!

Edit: just as I was ready to order the 2025 Perf pack, my size was gone :( Shouldn't have hesitated so long.

Gong wing, cannot attach electric pump adapter?

The hose connector on the wing is different than the board. I have to use the hand pump for wing. What’s up with that. Standard connector is not on the wing.

Inflatable travel board recommendations

Hi all,

Looking for suggestions for an inflatable board to take travelling with me.

I’m 90 kg, currently riding an Axis Blast 105L. I’m intermediate level - gybing consistently and starting to get some successful tacks in. I use an Axis V2 999 as my main foil (and love it!)

I quite like the mid length shape boards, even though I find them quite tippy. Any suggestion of board type and volume that you think would work well for me would be much appreciated! Both inland and sea use.

Thanks

Front wing recommendations for Chicama for a heaver rider

Hi everyone,

I'm going to Chicama March next year, and I need to gear up. I foil on lakes that usually don't get huge swells and I'm a heavier dude (230lbs / 105kg), so I tend to ride larger foils... which I believe is not the case for Chicama. My level is... I'd say low-level intermediate – I can easily foil behind the boat on the 1st / 2nd wakes (no transition though), can pump for 30-40s on the pump foils, have some success with lake downwinding with a boat tow ups (though not much, as swell is tiny).

I'm currently in North eco-system (have full foil drive setup with them), so I think it makes sense to stay within the brand. The smallest foil I own at the moment is SF1230.

Now, from what I gathered, the swell moves pretty fast (25 mph), so I need something smaller. And here the opinions greatly diverge between what I find on the Internet / LLMs / people in person...

Long story short, suggestions can be summarized in 3 options:

  1. Stick with the surf series, but get a smaller one – like SF930.
  2. Go with HA series and eagerly practice with high speed tow-ups, though there would be little utility of the HA series outside of the trip.
  3. Get the downwind series – not sure which one (DW1100 or DW900).

There's still plenty of time before March, so I realistically have time and get comfortable with any front wing.

What do you guys think? Maybe I even should consider something else?

Thanks in advance!

Gong Curve H XL vs XXL

Very much a beginner but I can get up on foil and have lots of other board sport and sailing exp. Just walked out of the Gong store with what I thought was a XL foil but apparently I snagged the XXL. I’m 75 kg/ 165 pounds and will be paring it with an inflatable 7’6” cruzader and a 6.0 m wing. Size L stabilizer.

The goal is a light wind setup and something to play around on boat wakes with. Is XL right for me?
