[DevLog] Solo dev making a political city-builder

For the past two years, I’ve been working solo on Deuterium, a strategy game mixing city-building with politics and warfare. I did everything myself: code, design, UI, and even the music.

Why am I posting now? I’m about to quit my day job to become a full-time indie developer. It’s a risky step, but I believe in the core loop.

The Fails:

  1. Poor planning: I planned to finish a year ago. It’s been two years, and the game is still not "done."
  2. It’s raw: There are bugs, unfinished features, and lack of polish. It’s definitely a beta.
  3. Zero marketing: Apart from a few friends, nobody knows this game exists.

The Good News:

  1. Full commitment: I’m quitting my job to dive into development headfirst.
  2. Playable now: You can try it right now. It’s rough, but the core mechanics (building, laws, units) work.
  3. The concept resonates: When I explain the gist of the game—how political decisions directly impact economy and stability—people get interested. It seems like they crave that depth.

About Deuterium: It’s pixel art, but with hard-hitting political realism. It might not look like it yet, but that’s the vision in my head.

Upcoming Update: I’m releasing an update soon that speeds up the early game significantly. Initially, you built one building at a time. Now, you’ll build entire streets at once. This makes the early game 10x faster and adds much-needed dynamics.
