I’m getting married and shopping for my dress. I’m trying to keep the total under $700. (I know that's low for wedding dresses but I can't fathom paying more for something I'll only wear once). I’ve shopped all the standard places Azazie, David’s Bridal, Anthropologie, etc. But, every time I find a dress I like at a decent price point, I become terrified that the alterations will be exorbitant. But nothing fits right. I was hoping to find something that just needs to be hemmed.

I'm looking for something A-line with a fitted top. I really love V. Chapman dresses but her skirts are so elaborate that I think it would be too expensive to alter for a 4'11" person.

I recently had a few bouts of urinary retention. One in particular was very scary. I spoke with a telehealth doctor and I have an appointment with a gynecologist in a couple weeks who will hopefully recommend surgery. But in the meantime I’m left with this horrible anxiety that it will happen again.

For those who suffer, do you have any tips to avoid it? Or anything in particular that you notice that sets it off?
