What “ugly” trends have you fully embraced, now or in the past?

No yuckin someone’s yum over here!
Some trends seem to be practically universally hated. Yet, you love them nonetheless. Can be a new trend or old, you might still like them or not. I just want to know which ones you’ve fallen for over the years.

Jorts and anything jorts adjacent: Shorts that hit below the knee?? I was 100% on the hate train until recently and I do like to try on ugly clothes just to see how ridiculous they look on me. I grabbed a pair of long ass jorts from GAP and then proceeded to cackle in the dressing room at how much I loved them. They’re silly af and hit right at that sweet spot many of my favorite midi skirts hit. I like how these work for my vertically challenged self. I have three pairs now.

Baggy, falling off your ass, slouchy jeans: Tbf, I lived in men’s 501’s through the late 90’s-2010’s. So easily being able to find some mid and low rise boyfriend cut slouchy jeans that can be slung low on my waist has been a godsend. Do they make me look tall and elongated? As my 6’ tall grandma would say- “honey, you look stout”. That’s fine. I can’t really hide the fact that I’m 5’2”.

Barrel cut jeans and pants: unflattering? I look bow legged? Oh, sorry, I can’t hear you- I’m marinating in the feeling of my pants not touching my legs. Plus, the regular lengths tend to be pretty “cropped”. So they usually hit a hair above my ankle bone and I don’t need to hem the damn things.

Tabi shoes: this is another oldie but goodie for me. I’ve been marching around town in those fugly Nike Air Rifts since the very early 2000’s. That was another trend I saw and was like “Yes! It’s hideous! I must try them!”. Have been made fun of for them many times? Understatement. I was instantly nicknamed La Cabra when I showed up to my first Easter brunch with my (now) ex’s family. But I just can’t quit this style and am enjoying that it’s making its rounds again. I love tabi style shoes- sneakers, ballet flats, boots, don’t care. They’re comfy. Gimme all them hoof feet and I have a whole collection of socks to go with them. Ain’t nothin sillier than sliding around your house in tabi socks.

Statement belts: ohhhh those giant belts from 2005-2010’s. I soooo wanted to be like the cool boho girls but I just wasn’t. Especially pairing any of those ludicrously wide belts with the men’s 501’s on my short waisted self. Truly, not the easiest trend for petites. I look back on pictures from this time frame and just laugh. But honestly? That’s why I love some of these trends. Sure, it looks dated as hell now. But it definitely looks like I was embracing the present and having fun back then.

Tank tops / vests recommended UK

Hi! Sorry if this has been posted a lot before, but the one piece of clothing I really struggle with as a petite girl is tanks / vest tops. The straps are always far too long for my body and end up with me having my chest and bra completely on show and I need to be able to wear a bra. I know that racer is an option, but has anyone found the perfect tank for those with shorter torsos? That I can get in UK?

Which is a better dupe and works for 5’1 legs?

Someone posted pics of their Loo Booty and I fell in love. 😩😩😩 But, it’s not within my budget. Which of the two options would work better for my stumps?

The original are the ones with red bottoms. If you va s better options, link me please.

Is baggy jeans flattering for my small frame?

I am on a mission to edit my closet, declutter and only keep clothes that look good on me. But I am stuck on baggy jeans. I have a couple of them and honestly not sure if this style actually looks good on my small petite frame. They look cool on taller people, but here you can see the extra fabric around my thigh, which makes me look shorter / stumped? Or I just need to style it better, maybe with some heels or high platform sneakers?

I am 5’1, usually wear size 23 jeans.

Advice on how to style a 5’2 rectangular shaped body and short torso??

I would post some pictures of my own but I am underage and feel uncomfortable at the thought of posting pictures. Sorry I apologize if that’s required.
So I provided pictures of a woman who has almost an identical body to mine.
I’d love general advice on how to style a wider and short frame🫶🏻🫶🏻 I noticed like flared pants flatter my shape well but what else??

Bikinis, which ones work?

I picked up some new suits based on all the feedback I got after a previous post I made.

I’m know I have some loose skin (51yrs, 4 kids) and I’m ok with that, I don’t feel like I need a one piece for that reason (like I was told a few times in my last post), in the photos you can see lines from my shorts waistband, those go away.

Thank you for any and all feedback, I read all your responses and appreciate them!

Please help me find trouser for the body I have and the fit I have, not the one I wish I had (1,52 m/5’)

In photo 1 & 2 you can see my legs. Normally my legs don’t touch, but I had my second baby 6 weeks ago so I’m still carrying a bit of extra weight. Even with the thigh gap, I have big hips and a big bum. Thats ok, I like it, but I struggle so much with trousers.

I’m looking for a pair of jeans. The ones I’m wearing are what I call my “mum” jeans, and they are great for running after a toddler, but I would love something a bit more stylish and that I can wear at work with a blouse.

Photo 3 is what I love. A nice slightly wide leg jeans or a straight leg jeans.

Photo 4 & 5 is what unfortunately those look like on me 😔 if I go too big, they completely swallow me and even with a belt they look ridiculous. But otherwise they end up being tight around my bum and upper thigh, and only wide or straight for the bottom leg. I think it looks silly and I REALLY don’t like that look on me.

I know I can wear tight jeans quite well, they accentuate the curves in a flattering way without making the leg look silly. But I would love to be able to wear other type of jeans too. Advice?

Ps. I live in a very small town without a proper seamstress. It would be quite difficult to get a proper tailoring or I would do it. The people that do fixes only do very basic stuff. And on that same note I can only order stuff online, as there is only a couple shops in town and they are all luxury items. I don’t mind spending on a reliable pair of jeans- but not €500+ thank you very much 😅

Edit:

Thank you so much for all the recommendations! I didn’t think I was going to get any responses and everyone was so nice. In the end I ordered some a pair from Abercrombie following some of the advice below. I hope they will be a good fit!

On a different note, wtf the DMs??? I just had a baby less than two months ago and it’s literally a picture of my legs on jeans and slippers 😂 some people will thirst over just anything

I need some advice -163 cm

I’m quite a shy and introverted girl, already 26 btw 🥹💕 I’m still figuring out how to dress well and do my makeup properly. Sometimes, like in the picture, I try to step out of my comfort zone and wear something a little different. I’d love to hear your thoughts! Any outfit ideas or styles you’d recommend?

Need honesty

Be honest: does this look good at my current weight?

I used to wear a ton of dresses like this. I actually have this exact dress in 3 colors. I feel like they make me look pregnant and I’m scared to wear them out since having my son. I’ve lost the majority of the weight but not all of it. If you saw me would you think I was pregnant? I’m 4’11

Recommendations for Slacks?

Hi all, I’m about to start an internship and need some business casual pants, but being 5 ft tall and having a shorter torso, I’m really struggling to find any that fit decently. They’re all either way too high rise or too long. It’s not really in my budget to have them altered either. Has anyone had any luck finding lower to mid rise, petite friendly slacks anywhere? Any help is much appreciated :)

How do these pants look on me?

I attached a pic. Love the side profile, not sure about front. Don't be mean though pls. Also I bought them already and they can't be returned so I could use some styling tips if it doesn't look good as is?

Knee High Boots Recommendations

Hi! I am 5’0 tall and looking for a comparable black leather heeled boot. These were a vintage pair i thrifted and no longer have because the zipper broke but im looking for any recommendations that are similar and would hit at the same height these boots did. I am looking for a shaft height of around 12-13 inches and it is like searching for a needle in a hay stack. I also have wide width calves. Thank you! 😊
