the struggle with shorts

i don't know if i'm just horrible with fashion but i cannot find a good pair of shorts to save my life. they're always too long, too short, a good length but my butt still peaks out when i walk, too tight around the thigh, or have bunching around the crotch.

any tips or recommendations would be so super appreciated (bonus points if it's australia-accesible)
also i am 5'2, 56kgs if it matters!!

'my way is the right way' mindset + hypocrisy

hi all! just wanted to talk about something i've noticed as of late. i recently started working at a new centre and although it's of course rampant with gossip and bad mouthing i've noticed the root of the gossip has to do with people having different practices/handling things different ways. there's also so much hypocrisy and no one seems to be self aware about it??

you've got the 'don't baby them' staff that take it too far, they'll talk bad about staff that comfort children during drop off but then they'll occasionally do the same thing??? they seem to have the belief that children won't grow if you provide comfort because they'll rely on others too much but it's about how you comfort them and what you do after not just the simple act itself.

then you've obviously got the spectrum of how people handle behaviours/conflicts and EVERYONE seems to judge anyone that handles something differently to how they would.

i have a strong belief that there's more than one way of going about things and that it's important to have the ability to change your approach depending on the factors at play. can anyone relate to this at all? the lack of self awareness from others is driving me crazyyyy.

mother neglecting children to pursue relationships

hi all! i know im not the only one that would've experienced this so i wanted to hear from others, what your experience was, how it affected you etc etc! (with either parent) to preface this was not the craziest thing in my childhood but it's still something i think about a lot, probably because it's easier to focus on and make sense of.

my parents split when i was 11 and my mum immediately went all out on the dating apps she could not cope with being alone at all. first she got catfished by someone, long distance relationship (different countries) and the person pretended to die of cancer. she would always include us kids in this 'relationship' telling us explicit things she would do and telling us to call them dad it was crazy looking back.

she continued the whole dating people thing, driving 40 minutes away without telling us to hookup with people, hooking up with the neighbour, inviting men she'd met online into the house (some of course made inappropriate comments to my older sister), even leaving to stay the night at a guys house on my birthday, nothing was off limits. obviously this resulted in even more neglect than we were already used to at the time (i guess physically too)

communicating feelings + grievances

hi everybody! i've come to the realisation i struggle with the classic (for most of us here at least id assume) lack of ability to talk to others about my feelings. i physically cannot answer a "what's wrong" question i either completely shut down or make a joke about something completely irrelevant.

i figured id start practicing by speaking out loud to myself which is when i realised how bad it was because i can't do that either. i'm a deeply reflective person i can say everything i need to say in my head but when it comes to saying it out loud it feels impossible despite knowing exactly what i want to say it's so frustrating.

basically does anyone have anything that helped them with this? whether with initiating conversations or responding to the "what's wrong" question. thankyou!

false memories

hi everyone! honestly just posting this to not feel alone. when i was 16 i tried to apply for a government allowance for living away from my parents and it ended up with cops involved due to something i said to prove it was unreasonable to live at home. pretty much when i was interviewed by police they said "sometimes your mind can make things up that didn't really happen even though you think it did" and that was the end of it but i know it happened, my sister was there when it happened. but everytime i hear something about how unreliable our minds and memories are i convince myself more and more that maybe i really did make it up despite being able to see the moment vividly in my mind. does anyone else relate to this i would love to know.

unimportant info - the police do reach out to my father and the sister that was there, obviously my father denied it and my brother told me that my older sister told the sister who was there to also deny it (my older sister is very much the 'i want to help him' type regardless of the harm caused to others) so my sister did deny it.

holding grudges/resentment

hi all! i just wanted to see if anyone wiser than me has some advice on being able to forgive or let go of things that happened in the past specifically with people that are still in your life that you have no plan on cutting off.

i've noticed i've been really struggling lately to hang out with certain friends and still feel happy when i get home even if nothing happens during that hangout all i can think about is how awful they've been in the past.

i think a big part i struggle with is that im a really reflective person, i always think about my interactions with people and analyse every little thing (i know it's probably not always healthy) and although no one will ever be able to actually put themselves in someone else's shoes i feel like i try my best to see all perspectives. this often leads to me feeling angry and frustrated that other people don't do the same despite being aware it's probably illogical to expect everyone to do so.

any personal experiences or helpful advice would be appreciated :)

following through with appropriate consequences

i saw a comment on a post on here asking how to go about following through with consequences (mainly how to know what an appropriate consequence is in the first place) and wanted to hear from more people!

redirection has its place but i don't think children learn anything from being redirected every time they do something they are aware they shouldn't do.

i'm struggling to think of scenarios but specifically when there's no natural/logical consequence like child spills something on the floor = they clean it up, child runs on a wet floor after being told not to = they slip over.

hopefully this makes sense, still getting my footing in this career id love to hear from educators and even parents (although i understand parents have the upper hand of having more time and less children to care for at once whilst handling the situation)

is it possible my TDEE is higher than i think?

i saw a post recently about peoples tdees (that don't workout) and it's made me even more confused on what mine could be. wondering if anyone here could take a guess based on my lifestyle or if anyone who has a similar lifestyle could share what theirs is!

5'2, 55kg (121 pounds), 19f
not currently strength training (no intentional exercise)
work 40 hours a week 80% on my feet
average 11k-15k steps a day
very little muscle mass

(i know a lot of personal factors can cause TDEE to vary but anything would help!)

Diploma

anyone who's completed their diploma in early childhood education, how long did it take you? i'm so over / burnt out in this field but i need a diploma to go to uni so im just going to stay and do it. would 6-8 months be realistic, i work full time but i think the motivation of wanting to leave will help me do it quicker (im also in australia, unsure what the courses and qualifications look like elsewhere)

casual jobs

anyone have any insight to offer on casual jobs? obviously there's no guaranteed hours and little protection so i'd assume this would be a bad idea for someone financially independent even in fields with high turnover where you'd be more likely to get lots of hours.

are there certain fields where casual is 'safe'

career change or study

maybe not the best place to post this but couldn't think of a better option

currently looking for advice as i feel like im at a crossroads. i've been working full time in early childhood since i was 16 (im now 19) half in lead roles and half in assistant roles, i recently left my long term centre and my new place is pretty much perfect but im still feeling so burnt out and i can tell all of my passion for the field is gone at the moment. im dreading every shift and it kills me to think about how much of my heart i poured into this job in the past.

my main goal has always been to become a primary school teacher but even that is looking bleak as im sure everyone's aware (i also live in australia where theres been lots of teacher strikes lately). its still something i feel passionate about but i dont want to waste my time and money for something that wont work out.

my main issue is to enrol in university id have to complete a diploma (would do ece - my centre has free apprenticeships) but it would mean i'm stuck here for at least another year. i've looked around at other jobs/fields and even entry level admin roles wouldn't be much of a pay cut so that's not a problem for me. i also don't feel great about the idea of taking a break and then coming back to do my diploma my brain tells me no progress in my career/study means im failing in life.

any advice or thoughts would be appreciated especially from teachers, people who left the field, or anyone feeling the same!!

possibly unable to work due to injury

hi i'm unsure if this is the place to post this but if it is insight would be appreciated!! i currently have a muscle injury thats getting worse due to work (there's no way to avoid it due to what i do for work) i've read that jobseeker also covers injuries but im worried about two things - 1: it says you need to be 22 and over (im 18) 2: i assume this doesn't cover my wage and is most likely a bare necessities kind of thing??

very uneducated in the centrelink world thankyou for any help :)

aggressive back patting

what is with the aggressive back patting during rest time!! i'd love to hear others opinions on this particularly if you're someone who does pat the children like this because i don't know if i just don't understand it. i've been working in this field for 3 years and have never had to pat a child hard enough that you can hear it from across the room let alone have it make any noise at all.

hi!! i'm a beginner looking for some insight on whether i should be aiming for my calorie limit even if im not that hungry.

F18 - 5'2 - 54kg
1h walking/jogging a day
45m - 1h of exercise 6 days a week

i started working out a week ago with a focus on body recomp/strength training whilst losing a little bit of body fat, my sedentary TDEE is 1500 but some days i only end up eating 1000 calories. should i be making sure i eat more when this happens to support the muscle growth or just leave it be?
