"Alternative Alternative" for h&m/uniqlo

I realize its a bit of an oxymoron to ask for alternative equivalents to big clothing corporations but I'm basically trying to find a sort of catch-all site or store where I can buy basics that are both more ethically sourced and fit better into an alt wardrobe. Tired of the half baked, overpriced, fast fashion but also dont have a decent thrift scene in my area. Any suggestions are welcome, TIA!

What to watch out for in London?

EDIT: "rough" seems to have been the wrong vernacular and has people thinking that I'm asking for advice on how to survive a war zone. I'm just asking for area-specific travel safety tips

I'm traveling to London in a couple days and I'm curious as to some cautions or things to be wary of people may have. Being from the US I'm not unfamiliar with the common sense safety advice but I've heard the city can be rough and I'd love any area-specific advice.

Inversely I'd love some recommendations on places to check out!

Any recommendations for Home Repair/Improvement grants?

I've been working on my home for about a year and a half and its gotten exorbitantly expensive, with every process to solve one issue revealing another. I'm trying to find ways to fund the final push to get it to a point where its safe, up to code, and energy efficient.
