TL;DR should I go active duty
Here’s some context for my scenario, I’m 22 and in the National Guard just coming off a deployment. Ever since I completed basic training I’ve job hoped, almost completed my bachelors degree and started but did not finish EMS school.
I’ve recently just came back from a deployment with 20k in my bank account. The only problem is that I have no car, no house (I’m going to be living with my fiancée and her grandparents till I figure my life out) and have no idea what I want to do as of a career.
I’ve applied for a full time technician job in the national guard in my state but it’s taking so long for them to get back to me I’m just worried and overthinking. I’ve been thinking recently of just doing the swap and going active duty for my career. I just don’t have “aspirations” to do anything else. It’s like how some kids grow up knowing they want to be a doctor, I just never had that. But one thing I do know I love is doing army and military stuff. Rather that be a regular 3 day drill, 2 week long annual training, or a 9 month deployment nothing feels right besides that. The only thing holding me back is I know it wouldn’t be anything like national guard stuff.
Has anybody else felt like this, just wanting to have a successful future but no idea how to make one?
If there are any veterans who’ve been in certain situations or actually just anybody, give me some advice on what you would do where to start. How do I find things I’m interested in that I could make a career out of.
