Need help cashing a refund check issued in my father’s name after cancelled international transaction

My father made an international money transfer/payment in the USA and paid cash for it at Walgreens. Later the transaction got cancelled, so the company issued a refund.

At that time, customer support told us we could request a refund check instead of cash because my father had already left the USA. They also told us the check could be cashed without his ID.

Now we found out that banks/check cashing places are asking for ID matching my father’s name, but he is no longer in the USA and I cannot provide his original ID in person.

The check is issued in my father’s name, and I’m trying to figure out what options we have now.

Questions:

  • Is there any way to deposit or cash the check legally without him being physically present?
  • Can he endorse/sign the check remotely to me?
  • Can the company cancel and reissue the check another way?
  • Has anyone dealt with something similar involving Walgreens or international transfer refunds?

Any advice would really help. Thanks.
