Physical games is important to the economic ecosystem.
Exactly as the title says. Physical games are important to the economic ecosystem we have going. There are thousands of small second hand game stores all across the USA and the world. And you know they make their money in second hand games. Whether those games be old or new. However, the demand for older games is not as high as recently new used games. So one of the issues that killing physical media will cause is the fact it will kill a significant portion of their revenue. 500,000 to 2 million in the annual revenue. That is roughly 30% to 50% of their revenue depending on where that independent second hand game stores is. With losing half their revenue, they wont keep their doors open. They will lose their business. Their homes. They can't provide for their families. There is a lot riding on it and tons of people are. Arguing to let it happen. And its bullshit. Not only does second hand newer games provide for families when sold but they also help with the free market by providing the power of choice. Shops can compete with each other to keep prices lower.
Yes digital is convenient but convenient is not always cheaper. And people argue if a game is being sold strictly digital it should be cheaper because you arent getting anything physical. Yeah. It should be. But you arent paying because there is nothing physical. You're paying because it is convenient and you are tired or lazy after work to go to the store to buy a game or maybe your car broke down or you dont have a ride to get there. You are paying a higher price with the digital market because it is simply more convenient. And Sony is absolutely counting on that. And then its about ownership as well. You own nothing. You are paying $80 dollars for a license which is honestly a rip off. They can take it away from you without you caring.
What happens if you are in the middle of a game and you are loving it and enjoying it? But oops. Its no longer available to play because the license got pulled. Yeah. You'll be pissed and dont pretend you wont care. And this may not be happening now but it will eventually happen and they will do it because they can get away with it. It will be their tactic to pressure you into buying more digital games if you haven't bought for a while. And I wouldnt put that past them with the scummy crap they are pulling right now. And I myself am not against digital media. I will admit, I have bought or played digital games before. I am not currently because of the issues and what I am trying to stand for. But I beg of you people of the internet who read this. Until we have true ownership of the digital things we buy. Please do not let physical media go away. Please fight for it.
We gamers make up Sony's revenue. If we band together all at once and refuse to buy anything from them. They will feel it. They will hear our protest. Yes they are in the hole right now quite deep but no decision in reversible. This can be reversed. So please people of the internet. Gamers of the internet. Do not let others become harmed by the entire digitacolypse thats on its way. Fight it please. You can fight it by writing a letter to the Anti-trust department of the USA government if you are in the usa. You can fight it by writing to whatever Anti-trust department there is in your country. Reach out to your law makers. Gain factual evidence about how bad this digital only future is for the economic ecosystem and for ownership and please keep fighting.
