Other potentials to be causing loose poops?
So I’m going to try and give as much information in as little text as possible.
I have a 10 y/o boxer who, around a year ago had a regurgitation issue. He went on meds but we ended up resolving that issue (drinking too fast). But because of this when he got his bloodwork done there was an elevated enzyme linked to pancreatitis so they recommended a low fat food. He was put on First Mates weight management since it has a good, low fat content.
At first he did well but later started having loose poops so we switched him to a digestion food (Go! Digestion Chicken) which didn’t help it. I will also add he would drool quite a bit more than you would see a dog with jowls drool and also licked his paws a lot more than typical. I work at a pet store so I have somewhat knowledge on foods and allergies so because of that I wanted him off of chicken.
Also just for time reference, he did stick on each of those foods for months before transitioning as I know it can take awhile to fully get the old food out of their system if allergy related.
So although it is a bit higher in fat and his bloodwork didn’t say for certain he had pancreatitis, around a month and a half ago we put him on Carna4 Fish for it’s minimal ingredient list and the sprouted seeds which aids the digestive system. He also seemed to not do great with the grain that was in Go! and the fish formula is grain free. Since then the excessive drooling has stopped as well as the excessive licking. He also had amazing poops for a few weeks. But now his poops are getting mushy again. We’ve cut out all treats except for dried apple. We used to give him goats milk, some with added blueberries and/ or cranberries but cut it out in case the dairy is affecting him. We would also give him hip and joint supplements which we’ve cut out for the time being just to make his diet as limited as possible to see if there was something minuscule causing the issue.
Now I’m sitting here with the knowledge I have but it’s obviously limited (not in the vet field so there’s obviously so much I don’t know) thinking what the heck else could this be?
He had bloodwork recently again and everything is perfect except that one enzyme that is slightly elevated but not for concern.
Also something that may be relevant is he did get a lump tested that is a mass cell tumour. We haven’t done the surgery to test if it’s benign at this point.
Thank you to anyone who may have suggestions or ideas on our little big terd
