AI and Reddit
Anyone who’s ever been on Reddit beyond an hour understands that there’s a biased lean. Many of us have faced bans, comment removals, and mutes. The moderators of most subs have (mostly) ensured that no one can disagree, and sometimes not even question their own biased stances. Many are here for this reason.
My large concern is that Reddit appears to be trying to entertain AI data seekers with the “treasure trove” of information they have. As you can already see, even Google’s AI search results yields answers from Reddit. The concerns enter when you realize that not only does Reddit supply answers for searches, but it also informs their learning algorithms.
If mods can tweak this by muffling/silencing the answers of the many who are not in agreement with them, and even the current CEO was found, and blasted for, the tweaks of comments in their favor, then why aren’t we more concerned? This is not only our future, but also our children(s) futures. This is the future of our planet if AI takes off more than it has, as it seems to be doing. Anything that it pulls, and learns from is critical for us to pay attention to. Reddit is the 7th most visited site, currently. If we continue to allow the bias lean, and not speak up, then we are allowing the actions of a few, dictate the outcome for all potentially.
I hope more become aware of this, and speak up to the individuals in control of decision making at these AI and data companies. Reddit is not a safe place to pull from, and they shouldn’t give their money to Reddit for this manipulated data until they fix this.
