Are patients still asking you for MMJ cards?

Family medicine PA here in Arizona. Even though recreational has been legal here for a while now, I still get patients asking me for medical marijuana cards pretty regularly.

Every time it happens, my internal reaction is basically, "You can literally just walk into a dispensary down the street," but they're still seeking out the medical route.

Do you actually do the certifications yourself, or just point them to one of those local pop-up card clinics?
Curious how you all handle this.

Looking for extra income ideas/gigs

Hey everyone,

I’m currently working full-time in Family Medicine and picking up part-time shifts at a medical weight loss clinic. While I enjoy both, I’m looking to see what other flexible side gigs or extra income opportunities are out there for PAs that I might be overlooking.

Since I already have a pretty packed schedule with the FT/PT combo, I’m ideally looking for things that are low-stress, flexible, or can be done remotely/on my own schedule.

For those of you doing side hustles, what has worked well for you?

Thinking of moving to PDX: PA & Pharmacist couple looking for the "real" pros/cons and neighborhood advice?

Hi everyone! My husband and I are thinking about moving to Portland for a change of pace, and we’d love to hear from you about what it’s really like here. We’ve visited before and really enjoyed the vibe, but we know that living is different from just visiting.

A little about us: I’m a Physician Assistant (Family Medicine), and my husband is a Pharmacist. We’re a gay couple looking for a community that’s welcoming and has a good mix of nature and city life.

We’d love to get your thoughts on a few things:

  1. Job Market: How is the job market for PAs and Pharmacists right now? Are there any specific health systems (like OHSU, Providence, or Legacy) that you’ve had good (or bad) experiences with as an employee?
  2. The Vibe: We know Portland is generally very LGBTQ+ friendly, but are there any specific neighborhoods that feel more like a “home base” for the community these days?
  3. Exploring & Buying: If we come up for a “scouting trip,” which areas should we definitely check out? We’re looking for neighborhoods that are walkable, have good character, and might be a good place to buy. We’ve heard about the Pearl and Nob Hill, but what about the Eastside?
  4. The Real Pros/Cons: What do you wish you knew before moving? We’re ready for the “grey” winters, but we’d love to hear about the current state of the city (safety, cost of living compared to quality of life, and the social scene, etc).

Thanks so much for any advice or “don’t do it” warnings you have for us!
