How can I improve?

I want to improve my tank and make it healthier overall. There’s algae growing on the driftwood that I’d like to get under control. It’s a 10-gallon tank that’s been running for about four months, and I haven’t replaced the filter cartridge yet.

I currently have 3 neon tetras and 2 glofish. I know the stocking isn’t ideal, but I didn’t realize that when I first set it up. I don’t have enough money to set up a second tank right now, so I’m trying to make the best of what I have.

I’m considering adding up to 2 nerite snails and possibly some kind of shrimp. I’ve kept ghost shrimp before, but they didn’t last more than a month, though they were already injured from a betta when I got them.
