help me please idk what to do next with my corrupted files
I am literally about to cry because I have spent SO much time downloading each of my custom content pieces one by one, and I really don’t want to delete my mods folder.
Here is what is happening: I downloaded a top from The Sims Resource, and when I tried to launch my game on my Mac, it hit me with this exact error:
Unable to start: Cannot start because the below file appears to be corrupted... /Users/______/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods/TSR MODS/Clothes/JCB HELLEN GYM BAG.package
The thing is... I ALREADY DELETED THAT FILE.
I have tried everything and I am stuck in an endless loop. Here is exactly what I have done so far, and the error STILL won't go away:
- Moved my Mods folder to the desktop and deleted the exact
JCB HELLEN GYM BAG.packagefile. - Emptied my Mac Trash bin completely (even held the Option key to force-empty it).
- Deleted my localthumbcache.package and completely wiped out the cache/cachestr folders.
- Checked iCloud Drive and searched my entire Mac storage using Finder—there are literally NO files left on my computer named "JCB HELLEN".
- Did a Folder Reset by renaming my Sims 4 folder to "The Sims 4 Old" to force the EA app to make a new one. The game opened fine completely blank, but the second I put my safe mods back, the error returned.
- Force quit the EA App and the EA Background Service via Mac Activity Monitor.
- Tried the fake file overwrite trick (creating a blank text file with the same name, putting it in the folder, and deleting it to force a refresh).
- I lost count of how many times I have run the "Repair" tool in the EA App. I have re-done the repair and cache clearing over and over again, but the app is completely stubborn.
The EA App is stubbornly pulling this file path from its background memory or some invisible cache and refusing to let it go.
Has anyone on Mac dealt with the EA app getting completely frozen on a deleted file path like this? Please help me, I have so many hours put into finding my CC and I don't want to lose everything. Thank you so much in advance 😭
