Erasmus In Albania - Tirana

Has anyone done Erasmus in Albania, especially in Tirana? I’m considering going there and would appreciate short, honest opinions about student life, the city and the university.

Erasmus in Tirana - ONLY HONEST OPINIONS

Hi everyone - përshëndetje të gjithëve !!!

I’m student from Poland and I have the possibility to do an Erasmus exchange either in Almería, Spain, or in Tirana, Albania, at Universiteti Politeknik i Tiranës - Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

I’m trying to decide which option would be better, so I’m looking for honest opinions from people who live in Tirana, studied there, visited, or did Erasmus there.

I would especially like to know more about:

  • What is Tirana like as a city for a student?
  • How is Universiteti Politeknik i Tiranës?
  • Is Tirana good for international students?
  • How open and friendly are people there?
  • What are the biggest + and - of living in Tirana?
  • What are the costs of living, food, transport and rent?
  • Are there interesting markets, flea markets, artistic places, creative spaces or alternative areas?
  • How is the general student life, nightlife and social atmosphere?

I like adventures, travelling, art, open minded people, hitchhiking, local markets and discovering less obvious places. If I choose Tirana, I definitely want to explore the Balkans, especially North Macedonia. I have never been to Albania before, so I’m very curious, but also a bit unsure.

I would probably stay from September 2026 to January 2027.

Any honest opinions, advice, warnings or personal experiences would be very helpful.
