Erasmus Mundus for non Eu applicants

Hey everyone! I'm looking forward to applying for Erasmus this year. I'm 27 and from Latin America. I've heard that older applicants and non-EU citizens tend to have fewer job opportunities after the program ends, is it very likely to happen, has anyone else heard the same?

If anyone from Latam is applying this year and want to talk about this journey feel free to DM me.

Staff secretly entered my room while I was away at a student residence in Lisbon. Can I terminate my contract and get my remaining rent back?

I am a student living in a private room at a student residence in Lisbon, which costs around €1,000 per month. I have only been living here for a few days.

While I was away from my room, two male staff members entered my room without informing me beforehand or afterward.

Before moving into this residence, I had lived in several hotels for a long period and experienced several theft incidents. Because of those experiences, I had developed a habit of leaving a camera recording when I go out to protect my belongings. I never expected the camera to record staff entering my room.

The two staff members entered my room shortly after I left, carrying a fire alarm. This was not an emergency. If the existing fire alarm was faulty and they entered my room to replace it, the accommodation was already aware of the issue. I therefore do not understand why they entered my room without informing me beforehand.

I had only recently moved in, so many of my important personal belongings were on my desk and had not yet been organized. Several pairs of my underwear were also exposed on the desk. One of the male staff members placed the fire alarm very close to my underwear, which made me feel extremely humiliated.

If I had not had my camera recording, I would never have known that two staff members had entered my room while I was away.

I am now extremely uncomfortable staying here and no longer feel that my privacy will be respected while living here.

I plan to ask management to terminate my contract without penalty, refund the remaining amount I have already paid for the unused period of my accommodation, and return my full security deposit.

I am extremely shocked that they secretly entered my room shortly after I left and replaced the fire alarm without informing me beforehand or afterward. I am unsure how I should properly deal with the situation.

I would really appreciate hearing everyone's thoughts on this situation.

Edit: I want to clarify one point from my original post. I mentioned that the staff came into my room to replace the fire alarm, but that was only my assumption based on the camera footage showing them carrying a fire alarm. I actually do not know why they entered my room or what they did while they were inside.

The accommodation has never told me that they entered my room, either before or afterward, and they have never explained why they entered. I only know that they entered because I happened to have my laptop camera recording.

Also, this is a private student residence and is not affiliated with my university.

If it was an emergency, then of course I understand that staff may need to enter the room without prior notice. However, if they actually entered my room to fix the fire alarm, as I initially assumed from the footage, then the issue must have already been known to management. I had been living there for several days without receiving any notice or explanation about a problem with the fire alarm, and then they entered my room soon after I left.

That is why I find it difficult to understand how this could have been an emergency requiring immediate entry without notice. The timing seems inconsistent with the idea that this was an emergency. My contract specifically states that staff must provide at least 24 hours’ notice before entering my room, except in cases of emergency.

Madrid !

Hellooo, I am going to Madrid this month (hola) but I'm wondering how exchange students usually make friends abroad? I've seen some mentions on this subreddit of a discord server and erasmus apps, but I kind of cba for the latter and would just prefer to give out my instagram or something lol. so I'm making this post to ask if anyone's in the same boat, if there are groupchats that we can join etc

and also any house hunting tips would be greatly appreciated because I have briefly browsed idealista but people say never actually commit to a place until you've seen proof that it's legit, apparently scams are prevalent :'( then again I know someone who already has a flat sorted even tho she's never been there haha

Packing for Erasmus in Umeå – What is actually included in the student dorms / kitchens?

Hey everyone!

I’m arriving in Umea next week for my Erasmus semester and currently packing my bags. For anyone living or who has lived in student housing/corridor rooms, I’d love some advice on what’s usually provided:

Bedroom: Are things like a duvet, pillow, and desk lamp included, or do I need to bring/buy my own bedding and lighting?

Shared Kitchen: Are basic cooking items (pots, pans, plates, cutlery) already shared in the corridor kitchens, or do people strictly use their own? Or can I find any left ones from previous exchange/Erasmus students?

Second-hand options: If kitchenware isn't there, is it cheap and easy to find essentials at second-hand shops, or should I just pack a few basic items in my suitcase?

Thanks a lot for the tips :)

Non-EU folks: How did you land an internship in Europe? (Visa vs. Offer order, sponsorship, etc.)

Hey everyone,

I am a non-EU citizen looking to secure an internship in a European country, and I would love to hear from anyone who has successfully navigated this process.

The legal and logistical side of things feels a bit like a "chicken-and-egg" problem, so I have a few specific questions for those who have done it:

What came first? Did you find the internship first and then apply for the visa, or is there a specific visa you used to move first and look for a role locally?

Company sponsorship: Did your employer have to sponsor your visa explicitly, or did you use a student visa/working holiday agreement?

No-job-required visas: Are there any specific visas you know of that allow non-EU citizens to enter a European country to look for an internship before securing an official offer?

Your strategy: Which country did you end up in, and what platforms or approaches worked best for you?Any insights, advice, or personal stories about your timeline and process would be incredibly helpful. Thanks in advance!

Note: I am an architecture student, but I would love to hear anyone's experience regardless of your field!

how scared should i be of the learning agreement?

i'm going to study abroad for 6 months in February and the host university does not have any courses equivalent to those i should be taking in my home institution (i mean they do, just not in my semester 😭). In order not to lose a whole semester, i've made a learning agreement with all the ADVANCED courses of those i would have back in my home country (e. g. I chose Parallel Computing to substitute Operating Systems). Because of that I've been studying all the syllabi so that i could attend the lessons prepared 💀💀

The whole structure has a logic, there's one big course (Systems and Architecture) which covers pretty much all the basics for every other one, but shiii i'm so fucking scared. If they reject it I literally DO NOT HAVE any other option to offer.

reddit am i cooked 🙏

I think I'm going to lose my place

I have an active application with manchester bls and ive realised i have like several clerical issues.

  1. My acceptance letter has the right passport number but hyphenated my name
  2. I didn't realise my application form was missing my home address, I submitted evidence of address and all my documents have the same address
  3. I used the official start date of term from my uni and not the one on my acceptance letter - so is off by 7 days.

I generally don't know what to do. My placement is supposed to start on the 14th and I'm like 90% sure I'm going to get a rejection at the moment. I can't tell if its better to withdraw and reapply now in hopes I get everything back on time for a possible early arrival (granted that depends on getting what's already submitted back timely). Or leave my current application as is and pray the officer allows me through as everything else is perfect, or I get asked for clarification? I've heard that can happen?

If anyone has any advise please share!!

anyone else going on erasmus in september and not knowing a single person

hey everyone

i'm going to madrid next month on my own. My friends who went on erasmus last year had no way to find people going to their city beforehand so i ended up building a site called erasmatch.com where you can find and message other erasmus students going to your city or uni before you arrive.

ino once we start we will all make friends hopefully 😹 but even in the first week to find someone to go to the events and nights out with is comforting.

over 1,000 students have signed up so far across 230+ cities and its completely free. lmk where you're all going this year!

Should I cancel or go?

Helloo!! So I'm going on Erasmus+ for the winter semester in Berlin. I have almost everything sorted out, however, I am really scared. I have type 1 diabetes, and while I thought I could manage it during my Erasmus, I was diagnosed with graves' disease two months ago. If I go, I will still be in touch with my endocrinologist in my home country, and we will manage the doses of my thyroid meds and continue the general management of my illnesses. However, this is terrifying me more and more every day. I’m also going without a grant from my home university, and I am thinking of looking for a job there, which has no guarantee, of course. With all of this going on, I don't know if I should cancel my semester while I can, as I feel like all of this could overshadow my Erasmus experience. I don't want to lose the experience of a lifetime and regret it later, but the uncertainties are stressing me out so much and I feel like I will not have a good semester as my starting date comes closer and closer. I am just curious if anyone has been in a similar situation. I would love to hear some insights from a different perspective. Thank you so much

Good Day! I am currently a second year BS Physics student in UP Diliman, I plan to take my Masters abroad and hopefully transition to full time work there.

  1. May I have any suggestions for schools or scholarship programs. My target field is aerospace science!

  2. I also would like to ask for tips on how to make my application solid for higher chances of passing. Right now I am trying to bring my gwa up and deepen my knowledge on my course.

  3. I would also like to ask if there is any suggested tracks other than aerospace science that I can take.

Any comment will be appreciated. Thank yo so much!

What to pack (household items)

Heyyy!

Was wondering what you guys are packing / had packed while going on an erasmus that doesn’t include clothes, accesories, skin care, makeup and what not.

What sort of kitchenware or other household items did you bring?

Is it smart to bring a hair dryer, iron (or steamer).

Thanks in advance!!💜

Finding accomodation feels impossible - Erasmus in Ljubljana, Slovenia

hello! as the title says, searching for accomodation has been an anxiety inducing nightmare. I did not realize how doomed i was once i recieved an email saying i wasnt accepted into the dorms. I also started my search very late since there were a few problems with my application. I have a friend i am going with who is struggling with the same problem. All good places on sites like housing anywhere are already booked and what is left is all wayy too expensive. Landlords i emailed either dont respond or respond very late, with their answers always being either sorry we are fully booked or that theyre looking for people staying at least a month, im only staying for 4 months. I emailed the ljbuljana ESN group about it and they sent a few resources, but they are not as often updated as they claim. Is there even the possibility that they wont be able to accomodate all of us? that some of us will just end up stranded? should i just...not go after all?? i really dont want it to amount to that. If anybody has a piece of advice or even just some words of comfort i would appreciate it. Oh and im going for the winter semester :)

CoLife Istanbul | Horrific Experience in depth (6 month span)

Exchange in Istanbul CoLife Experience

I stayed at Colife in a total of 6 months for my Erasmus and payed 25.000TL per month (feb-july 2026) for this room area: Besiktas.

CLEANLINESS & CLEANING FEES

Cleanliness was one of the biggest problems. My bedroom was extremely dusty and mold was growing in several places. There was no vacuum cleaner in the entire house despite having carpets, and there was no proper deep cleaning during my stay. Because of my astma I had to buy myself an air purifier in order for me to breathe properly. At the end of the of the 6 month, the air filter was full of dust.

The cleaning itself was very surface-level. Kitchen and bathroom cabinets were barely cleaned, belongings from previous tenants were simply left behind, and we had to correct the cleaners multiple times.

Strangely enough, cleaners were required to take before-and-after photos every single time they came, supposedly so Colife could monitor the apartment remotely. Yet basic cleanliness and household issues remained unresolved for months. So what exactly is being monitored?

The cleaning fee makes this even more questionable. At the end of my stay, I was charged around 2,000 TL as an end-of-stay cleaning fee, while multiple different cleaners independently told me they received around 400 TL for cleaning one apartment or 600 TL for cleaning two. I obviously cannot verify Colife’s internal payroll, but hearing similar figures from multiple cleaners while seeing the actual standard of cleaning left a very bad impression.

KITCHEN, INVENTORY & EMPTY PROMISES

The kitchen wasn’t much better. Colife advertises utensils, yet missing or unusable items weren’t properly replaced and the pans were dirty and hard oily stains. We were promised a new pan set that simply never arrived.

We also reported problems with the iron for months. The iron was already burned and unusable from previous tenants when we moved in, yet it had apparently never been properly checked or replaced. Instead of simply replacing it, we were even given a supposed cleaning “hack” to try, which obviously didn’t solve the problem.

When a new tenant moved in, the whole discussion somehow started from zero again, despite us having reported the condition of the iron for months. What made it worse was that Colife then wanted us to pay for the iron, even though the damage had already been caused by previous tenants before we moved in.

One of my roommates, who is knowledgeable about Turkish law and tenants’ rights, pushed back and pointed out that we should not be charged for pre-existing damage that we did not cause. After she specifically raised our rights and the landlord’s responsibilities, Colife eventually dropped the charge.

So after months of reporting an already unusable iron, we somehow ended up having to defend ourselves against being charged for the exact same damage we had been telling them about from the beginning.

MAINTENANCE & DAMAGE

Maintenance was equally frustrating. The shower broke approximately every month. The water pressure was extremely strong and seemed to keep damaging the shower head, yet the underlying problem was never addressed.

One of the worst incidents happened because something related to the building’s heating system had to be accessed through my balcony/room. My door was forced open and was not immediately properly replaced afterwards.

They then initially tried to make me/my roommates pay in relation to the situation. Only after extensive discussions was that dropped.

What particularly bothered me was this repeated tendency to try to place costs on tenants for things we did not cause, as happened with both the already-damaged iron and the situation involving my door. In our experience, it sometimes took persistent pushback — and even explicitly raising tenants’ legal rights — before these charges were dropped.

COMMUNICATION & PROFESSIONALISM

Communication and professionalism were probably the most frustrating part overall.
Staff regularly seemed unable to make even simple decisions without consulting a manager. You could wait days for an answer just to be told they first had to “discuss it with the manager.”

Even some of the people showing rooms to potential tenants seemed to know surprisingly little about the apartment they were showing.
Their communication style also became strange considering how serious some of these conversations were. Messages were frequently filled with hearts, flowers and other overly friendly emojis, even while discussing unresolved maintenance problems, costs or complaints.
Emojis themselves obviously aren’t the issue, but the constant cheerful tone felt bizarre when the actual problem you were contacting them about had been ignored for days or weeks. The friendliness of the messages often didn’t match the quality of the service behind them.

And apparently tenants weren’t the only ones struggling to reach Colife.

At one point, the building manager approached me personally because he couldn’t get in contact with Colife himself. He asked me, a tenant, to contact them regarding their monthly building maintenance payment.
Having to act as a middleman between my rental company and the building manager was honestly ridiculous.

PRIVACY & VIEWINGS

There was also very little respect for tenants’ privacy when arranging viewings.
Sometimes we were told only around one hour beforehand that someone would be entering the apartment for a viewing.

For a company renting private rooms in shared apartments, I found this incredibly inconsiderate toward the people actually paying to live there.

THE CONDITION OF THE APARTMENT

The apartment itself had plenty of issues.
It regularly smelled of cigarettes, and the shared areas had no proper windows, only the bedrooms did. This made the apartment incredibly stuffy and hot, especially when someone cooked or during summer.

Some curtains literally dragged across the floor, many things were old or simply painted over, and belongings from previous tenants were left around instead of being properly cleared out.
Even basic things took forever: my mattress cover arrived around two months after I moved in.

ADVERTISING VS. REALITY

The rooms also don’t necessarily match the impression given by some promotional/Google Maps photos.

Decorative plants, candle holders and bedding shown in pictures were not included in my room.
If you’re considering Colife, ask exactly what is included in your specific room rather than assuming you’re getting what you see in the pictures.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE

What bothered me wasn’t one broken shower or one delayed item. Things can go wrong in any rental.
It was the constant pattern: surface-level cleaning, mold, recurring maintenance problems, unusable household items, empty promises, extremely slow communication and problems only being addressed after tenants repeatedly pushed for solutions.
Colife even has cleaners photographing apartments before and after cleaning, yet somehow basic problems can remain unresolved for months. It felt like the property was being monitored on paper rather than actually managed.

For anyone considering Colife: view the exact room before signing, check for mold, check what is actually included and usable, document everything when you move in and get every promise about repairs or replacements in writing. Take photos of any existing damage immediately and keep your conversations with them. Based on my experience, I would also not automatically accept a charge simply because you’re told you have to pay it.

After several months of dealing with this, I would absolutely not choose Colife again.

Austria Residence Permit: 3-Month Bank Statement Issue with New Education Loan

• लगभग ₹20 लाख का loan amount मेरे HSBC (Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation) के savings account में credit हुआ है।

• HSBC account में loan disbursement के अलावा अभी कोई transaction नहीं है, इसलिए bank statement में सिर्फ एक ही transaction दिखाई दे रही है।

• मैंने financial documents में:

- Loan Sanction/Approval Letter

- Loan Disbursement Letter

- Bank Balance Certificate

- HSBC Bank Statement

- INR to EUR Currency Conversion Proof

ये सब submit किए थे।

• अब VFS की तरफ से reply आया है कि “Please upload three months updated bank statement.”

Please provide solution I need urgently.

No lectures provided by faculty during the Erasmus stay

Hey, I’m a little lost and I think I need someone with similar experience to tell me everything will be ok… Basically we got email from our hosting university that the faculty I’m going to with my friends won’t be doing lectures for erasmus students. Instead we’re going to have individual consultations with each professor.

I’m a little bit… surprised? disappointed? i’m not sure what exactly, but this is not what I imagined about my erasmus experience… Especially when one of subjects I chose is sign language 🫪

Does anyone had similar experience at your erasmus and could tell me a little bit about it? how it looked, how it worked? and do you think it is possible to still have those „individual” meeting together? Ngl but when we were choosing subjects with my friends we tought it might be smart to sign for all the same ones in case someone gets sick or just won’t be able to attend one.

The other thing I’m scared about is that I won’t be able to motivate myself to sit alone/with friends and learn everything at home, not at uni since I’m the type of person who learns easier when listening to someone talking about the topic. Any tips on that?

MEGATHREAD 2026/27 Semester 1 AUTUMN/WINTER: where are you going on Erasmus?

Every semester there will be a megathread for the people that are currently on Erasmus, internship or studying abroad in general. Spot someone in the same city as you? Maybe your very first friends can be met on this thread!

You can post whatever you like here, you can also post your comment like this:

• Where are you on Erasmus (Country + City)? Why did you choose this city/country?

• How is your experience so far? (If you are already there!)

• How you found accommodation?

• Advice for future students in your country + city

Are you a student going on your erasmus in Spring 2027? This thread might help you

Old thread: MEGATHREAD 2025/26 Semester 2 Spring: where are you going on Erasmus? : r/Erasmus

* This megathread is earlier than the usual ones. This is so that others can maybe find people who go to the same city as them and to already engage in conversation for that. But the thread stays up until January for sure!

Can I do Erasmus in my home country?

Hi everyone, I’m planning to study **Digital Economics and Business (DEB) at Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM)**.
I’m a Turkish citizen, and I’m wondering if it would be possible to do an Erasmus exchange **during my 2nd year at a university in Turkey**, even though Turkey is my home country.
Has anyone done something similar, or does anyone know if Erasmus rules allow you to do your mobility in your own country? I’d really appreciate any information or personal experience.
Thanks!
