Burlington spends $785,280.37 fighting Millcroft Greens at the OLT

City spends $785,280.37 on external legal expenses. The developer is calling for the release of all documents. The Millcroft saga continues.

Should the public be allowed to provide input on a $785,280.37 expenditure and should all the documents be released?

Tax Clarity or Clever Math?

The mayor states: "total tax increase (including the City, Halton Region, and Boards of Education)in the order of 4.5 per cent, with the City of Burlington share of taxes being less than 3 per cent". But Burlington taxes are up 5.8% - how does that work?

The City of Burlington is now collecting $90 million more in property taxes per year than it did since the last election in 2022. That's a 47% increase over 4 years.

Our June "Final" property tax bills for 2026 have arrived. We know the overall increase was 4.49%, and Burlington's increase was 5.8%. What does that mean in terms of dollars collected by the City of Burlington? After all, what's 90 million between friends?

Some suggestions on what to ask a candidate for council when they knock on your door.

Why does your vote in Burlington matter? During the last term alone, the city’s portion of your property taxes jumped by over 44%. Our local government controls roads and traffic lights. Are we all seeing too much red? Don’t just give away your vote—ask the hard questions when candidates come knocking. Here are some suggestions:

They are both collecting their OMERS pensions. Yes, anyone can run for office, but it is always difficult to win over a well-known incumbent. Should people in their 70s retire to create opportunities for someone in their 40s or 50s to create opportunities for someone in their 20s?

I live in Burlington. ARGO has been here twice to show our council and the public a bus and talk about the service. If we remove cost considerations, does ARGO work? Are more people using transit? Do people get where they need to go on time? Is the service better than fixed-route buses?

Peter discusses the lack of accountability at the senior levels in Hamilton.

He talks about the impacts of Hamilton's 23% increase in taxes over the four-year term of the current council. Apples to apples, the total tax bill in Burlington has increased by almost 27% over the same period, with Burlington's share of that total bill up by over 44%.

"We need a mayor and councillors who understand finance and discipline".

...

Can you substitute the word Burlington for Hamilton in much of what Peter says?
