L6 Ops Manager - Advice

I have been a DS L6 Ops Manager for a few weeks.

There's no way I'll be able to manage this role for long. Not because it's hard but because I really love my family. I took the position because I want to take care of them financially but what is the money worth if you can't see your kids and spouse?

After one solid year of hardwork, is it easy to transition to another internal role? Planning on training THE HECK out of two of my AMs to replace me. Is that the right way to go?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and lovely.

Salary Negotiation

Got offered an L6 position and I asked if it was possible to get an increase on my base salary (by 10k-15k more) because I have years of experience.

I havent heard back from the recruiter. It's only been a day but with this job market I'm super nervous. I have always negotiated my salary in the past but this is an ever changing job market and maybe negotiations etiquette has changed? 😭 I just hope didnt shoot myself in the foot because I was really PUMPED to do this position.

What should I do if I don't hear from them by EOD? Thanks!

Venting - Unemployed Experienced Professional

I graduated back in 2017 with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology with the hopes of workin in a lab. I quickly realized that I was mislead. Most hospital labs need licensed lab professionals. I didn't know because I wasn't informed about this in college from any advisor, I'm the first to graduate college in my family. Being on my own since 18, I had to mainly work throughout college and couldn't afford to go back as quickly after obtaining my degree. So I just keep working as much as I can to save money to pay out of pocket.

I did so many Lab Assistant jobs in different research and hospital spaces and was fortunate that my experience allowed me to get an opportunity to work for local government which then allowed me to be a Microbiologist for the Federal government. I truly felt like ALL my hardwork paid off and my dream work was before my eyes. While working for the government I got so many opportunities to do so many different positions. Truly felt like I was contributing to the public health and safety of my country.

BOOM! My entire office is laid off because of political chaos that has nothing to do with us. Now looking for a job for over a year and my experience in the science/research space and in government is seemingly meaningless. My bachelor's no longer means anything. Hospitals begging for Lab Technologists because of a massive shortage but won't let me get a temp cert without going back to school although I have more lab experience than new grads. All these years of hardwork seems like it means nothing.

Not working has taught me I was a corporate slave willing to do anything. I missed so many life events for work. I risked my mental and health for people who easily discarded me. Now I have to compete with the next generation that is also struggling to obtain employment. Now I have to take out a loan to get a Master's in something profitable just to compete survive in my own country. But what will the Master's mean when my colleagues with STEM Master's are also unemployed?

While everyone is struggling, those in positions of power are more incompetent than ever. Idiots determine what everyone's value is. They determine what is important vs what actually is. Money means nothing yet they use to to control and hold people captive to meaningless busy work. I never truly wanted to go to college but they told us in High school we had to if we didn't want to be poor ans unemployed in the future. Well look at me now! I have to watch those without degrees make money because they did a trade or social media influencers. I feel like I've been punished for working hard. For not knowing about the AI boom and not doing Tech like everyone else.

I want to give up but if I do, I'll be on the streets. I have no choice but to play this stupud game over and over. This entire system is soooooo freaking sick it makes me want to scream endlessly. I'm disgusted that I feel like a stranger in my own country.

Thanks for listening.
