Some further context:

This is the second time I've played the game in a survival save. Currently prepping for ashlands

I have some portals set up but I prefer to sail more often than not.

I try to use the map sparingly, more for long distance navigation than marking every point of interest. I also have a post it on my monitor covering the minimap as I find it distracting
