Why is it so hard to find lighting that’s well-made but not painfully boring?

I went to a few lighting stores this week because I’m trying to replace the lights in my living room, and I swear I left more confused than when I walked in.

The cheaper ones looked okay at first, but once I picked them up, they felt kind of flimsy and I immediately started worrying about the wiring, heat, finish, and whether they’d still look good after a year.
Then the nicer ones felt better made, but so many of them were just… boring. Like very safe hotel hallway energy. Anything with actual personality seemed to jump straight into “absolutely not” pricing.
Maybe I’m overthinking it, but lighting feels like one of those things you notice every single day. It can make a room feel cozy and intentional, or make the whole place feel flat.
It feels like the options are usually:
• affordable, but questionable quality
• good quality, but painfully expensive
• attractive, but overpriced
• looks great online, but impossible to judge until it’s installed
How do you all choose lights that are actually worth it? Do you have brands you trust, specs you always check, or do you just read reviews, buy in someone and hope for the best?

Also, what’s the light you regret buying most? Or the one that surprised you in a good way?

Already obsessed with her eyelashesv🥰🥰🥰

She's so tiny and cute that I genuinely can't process it. How is a kitten allowed to be this beautiful?? Look at those lashes. Have you ever seen anything like her?
