Met Peter Falk

After a lifetime of loving Columbo I was in line to graduate from USC in 1990. My friend and I were walking in line with the other graduates and there was Peter Falk right in front of us. My friend shook his hand. I just waved or smiled or something. He must have had a relative graduating or something. Anyway, it was great to see him in person.

Printing guilloche patterns?

I had this idea to print a humorous banknote. I would print it very large (maybe 12x18”). American currency seems to use engravings whereas other countries use a lot of guilloche (those really intricate geometric images with tons of thin lines). I know I’d need a high mesh count screen for small details. Has anyone done anything like this? Since it would be scaled up I’m thinking the thin lines of a guilloche would be larger and would print okay but I wanted to get input before I attempted anything.

Registration pins

I’m trying to make my prints more registered. Someone suggested ternes Burton reg pins. All I can find are the plastic ones and reviews are negative for those. I’ve seen videos for the round metal ones but can’t find any online (sold out at the one store I found). Any suggestions? Anyone use the plastic pins?

Registration tips?

In my class we used registration marks when doing shirts but for designs on paper my teacher had us hold the paper in place ( once it was in the correct position) with some old credit cards taped to the table (at the top and one side). I haven’t used any other form of registration for my art prints. Any suggestions?

My tribute to General Burkhalter

Grew up with Hogan’s Heroes and am rewatching it with my mom who has Alzheimer’s but loves the characters. I made this artwork for her.

Hole in screen?

Hi all, for the first time in 8 years I made a hole in one of my screens. Must have been too aggressive with my pressure washer. The hole is like 1/4 inch. Do any of you still use screens with holes?

Ink bleeding outside the edges

Hi all. I think I’m going backwards in ability. My last few attempts at printing all had the same problem: ink bled outside the edge of the image. What am I possibly doing wrong? At first I thought my off contact was not enough, now I think maybe it’s too much. See photo for example.

Question on wash out

We had a wash out station in our screen printing class and I could take my exposed screens from the exposure unit to the washout station and start washing it out. I was under fluorescent light for several seconds before getting the screen wet. Never had problems. Now I have to do this at home. I expose in my bathroom and have washed out in the shower but I don’t think it’s strong enough. If I expose and take my screens (in a light proof box) to my garage where I have my pressure washer, do you think I’ll have time to get them out of the box and start washing out in the sunlight outside without risking more exposure? Shouldn’t be more than a few seconds. I’ve got to improvise here. Thanks for any help.
