Image 1 — How so I make sure my scarf doesn’t become narrower as I move forward. I’m not exactly a beginner but I haven’t made much improvements in a year. If I can’t get this one to work out, I’m afraid I might lose interest and give it all up, which is not what I want. Help please.

The pattern requires an odd number of chains to start off with. I’m starting out with a narrow scarf chaining 29 using 5-ply cotton yarn. The pattern instructs you to do a single crochet in the second chain from the hook. Then alternate between sc and dc throughout. Seems simple enough but I end up with a scarf that is becoming more and more narrow as I move forward, despite using stitch markers. HELP NEEDED. I really like crocheting. It relaxes my mind if I don’t care about the end result, which is why I’ve stuck with it for so long. However, I’m starting to want something to show for all the time I spend. Besides, with the time I’ve spent studying and practicing, I should be able to pull off a simple scarf already and it’s getting too frustrating. Again, HELP NEEDED.
