This is My Reaction to the WS 1.3.0/BL 1.5.0 Beta Patchnotes

Instead of making a video and reacting to every patch note I'm just going to skim through the patchnotes and give my impressions on stuff.

Oh they made the characters visible on the saved games menu again.

Mooring - This is fine. I don't think most of us will ever use it but could be a niche scenario where you want a handful of trading ships to go up and down rivers but save your war fleet somewhere more open or something. Could also be a way to keep a backup fleet in case you or your parties lose your/their ships to replenish ships on a short notice especially if your favorite ship is halfway across Calradia.

Ferry System - This is good. No more being stranded on Beinland after you get imprisoned by Deserters and leaves room for people to skip the Warsails tutorial but also get across aquatically.

Coastal Castles - We have those?

Naval Events - Nice to have, little extra distractions while sailing.

Boatswain Skill Gain Change - I like the change, now you're not punished for having high Seaworthiness on your boats and it acts closer to Leadership - another social skill - but at sea.

Ship Attachment Ropes Can be Hit - I'm guessing we can now attack the rope as the ship is being pulled in? I'm more of a boarding guy myself so I don't think I'll have much use for this.

Warsails Tutorial Quest Adjustment - This is fine, the "escape on a river from ships that want to shoot you to death with ballistas" definitely felt like the longest mission of them all especially with the wind not favoring you most of the time.

Advanced Startup Options - Only for Sandbox Mode looks like, but still interesting. I am amused at the idea of making Vlandia/Khuzaits on the verge of defeat every game, and might feel nice to customize your start if you wanted to roleplay something specific in a non-campaign game.

Battle Sites/Wreckages - Hell yeah, scavenging resources. Who needs to work hard when you can pick like vultures at whatever's left behind?

Personality Trait Bonuses - It's nice that a personality trait will do more things now instead of what I assume to influence persuasion chances for dialogue options. Even negative traits have positive effects and positive traits have negative effects so there's no "right" personality to work towards.

Blood Feuds - Oh no, now I actually have to reconsider executing Monchug.

Loyalty Penalty for Wrong Culture Govenor Removed - Huzzah now I don't have to scour the world for an Empire Companion to rule Empire Towns as efficiently.

Started a new game in beta to check Radagos since he never had an encyclopedia entry before and there's refugees around Tevea? Have they always been there they definitely weren't there in base game, so maybe it's a warsails thing. They disappear after going into Tevea though.

Oh hey perks do this now, giving info on if they apply on land, sea, or reduced effect.

So that's why he often kicks my ass in duels.

Sword Sister and Veteran Sword Sister swapped Weapons - Now the Veteran Sword Sisters have the Hickory Crossbow which is good. They're still very poorly armored compared to other Crossbowmen and Hickory only slightly falls behind Bound Crossbow, but since they have Crossbow 150 I might keep more of them in my army when the opportunities arise. Probably still won't actively seek them out like I do with Elite Hired Crossbows, but they're not a liability to have around anymore.

Khuzait Khan's Guard got a ranged weapon buff apparently, oh dear.

Druzhinnik Champions got a Noble Horse so I assume they'll deal more charge damage and are faster? I hope that doesn't mean I'll need a noble mount to upgrade into them.

Vlandian Pikemen got a...two-handed skill nerf? Why? Nobody uses them!

Anyway thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Anyone Know of Any Mods that Add Starcraft-esque Ships?

I've checked out Low Tech Armada with the Sovereign Battlecruiser with the legally distinct Otamay Cannon, just wondering if there are any other mods that add ships similar to Starcraft ones.

I Think That Battania Buff is Doing Them Well

I've only been actively contesting Vlandia for like the last in-game year but even before that Battanians have held their ground more or less.

The only faction that got destroyed so far in this game were the Sturgians and that's mostly my fault because I took advantage of their weakness when they were getting steamrolled by the Nords to take some Towns for myself.

Well I guess since Western Empire is at war with Aserai, Northern Empire, Battania AND Southern Empire they won't be around for long, either.

Hooray For Shields

Was doing one of those "independent clan takes a rebelling town" siege and I rode into the breach in the wall and trapped myself inside facing a wall of archers until the rest of the army had to come rescue me.

Unrelated but was it always a thing that you could retrieve thrown Throwing Axes after they hit the target like a shield?

POV You're Playing Warsails and You Just Unlocked Veteran's Respect

Real shame they don't become noble troops for Nords like most all other bandits troops do but hey I'll take it.

Been Trying Smithing For First Time in New Campaign, Are These Good

I'm only at Smithing 177 right now so I can't make legendaries yet (I think) but these managed to turn out not bent/cracked and I thought they were pretty cool.

Who Made The Chickens in Towns Attackable

I can understand horses, but why chickens!? I just swung at one for fun thinking "There's no way this will work."

A group of 200 men at the bottom of a ladder that I'm throwing a firepot at? I can handle that.

But an innocent chicken? I'm a monster.

Edit: Also in case anyone was curious, no, the chickens do not give XP.

Favorite Nord Wives?

I got War Sails and decided to play a Nord game next and was considering having a wife also of Nord culture since they're new, and was wondering if people already have favorites of Nord cultured spouse candidates.

I'm just torn on if I want a wife that will charge into battle with me axe in hand or someone who can be good at a specific party position.

I'm not sure if our brother having all his attributes/focus points reset to build him however you want is intended behavior either, but since he already has good melee skills I figured I could have him invest in intelligence for Steward/Surgeon?

So I guess if I'm going the party position route I'd want a spouse who could be a good Navigator and/or a Scout but I can be flexible, so I just wanted to hear about potential candidates people here like regardless of what they excel at.

Parade Perk Works if Anyone That Has it is in Town

I had a family member doing nothing in a town gathering Charm XP and he got Parade, so I wondered what would happen if I sent him to a Town, not as a governor but just there to exist.

And sure enough the Loyalty Bonus applies. (Third pic to show that the current governor does not have Parade)

I wonder if it will stack, though a +5 is usually enough to reach 100 loyalty anyway so probably overkill.

I wonder if you can also take them into your parties and drop them off at friendly non-personally owned towns to increase loyalty, too...

Vassal Gameplay Truly is a Challenge

The AI liege does little to manage their opinions with their vassals so defections tend to happen a lot, not to mention it's difficult to convince other vassals that maybe they should shelve this war and pay some tribute in exchange for not being warred on three sides at once.

Maybe I should just spam proposals until they run out of influence, but then I might not have anyone who will form armies.

Just When You Thought You Had Tactics Figured Out...

First Pic: A painful 30 minute siege defense of 757 defenders vs 2345 Vlandians with me trying to rig every advantage in my favor by successfully destroying the Battering Ram and the Siege Tower forcing the enemies to run through the meat grinder of Ladders but failing.

Second Pic: The same siege but with Ungabunga Send Troops autoresolve (I only had like 114 Tactics)

Was Editing And Saw A Flying Man in the Footage

I'm not sure if it's due to a bug or he got hit really, really hard but it was funny.

Unfortunately I only noticed this while editing and not while I was playing so I couldn't check what happened to the guy, I was too busy adjusting catapult aim to hit the juicy stack of Vlandians at the ladders.

Convincing Clan Head Prisoners to Switch Sides

Can you only persuade Clan heads to switch sides from your prison if you're the faction leader? I've noticed in my current game as a vassal I could only attempt to persuade on clan heads if i met them in the overworld

Do You Guys Do Warsails Tutorial ASAP or Nah

Like when it gives you the prompt to teleport to Ostican, do you take the option to go there immediately or take your time travelling there on foot so you can build yourself up on the way, whether that be tournaments, a companion, or getting some armor so you don't die in one hit against the tutorial boss.
